Hi All.. Yes I'm very lucky to be able to have this problem but.... As a complete Ducati nut I'm looking to purchase EITHER.. A Desmocedici RR a superleggera a Panigale R or a 916 Foggy rep.. With a view to the occasional ride but really something just to look after as an investment for my kids one day.. I have a hyper for day to day runs.. My thinking if I'm correct is that the Panigale is not as exclusive as the others and poss the superleggera either as they keep adding to the numbers.. Stand to be corrected there... So your views would as always be greatly appreciated .. Many thanks..
Nostalgia pushes up bike prices hence why 916 era bikes are loads currently. However people that wanted a 916 when they were young will be long gone if your talking a long term investment. D16RR is surely the answer and its still very special as i doubt they will anything like it again. SL is just a panigale in a frock
A genuine first issue, fully original, unmodified 916 Foogy rep with full main dealer service record and verifiable history for the sort of money people are asking if it were my choice. Desmocedici is a piece of history which the Superleggera and Panigale R are not in my opinion. Good luck with your purchase and I'm only jealous a little bit. Andy
Yes it is ... But, in fairness I've worked hard all my life the kids are grown up well provided for and settled etc.. So I might as well invest in something that i can occasionally get my leg over and if not just admire whenever and dribble over.. Last hoorah befor the zimmer.. !
Superleggera was overpriced imho. If its only occasional blasts a D16 with recent service would be my choice. They seem to be holding steady at about 40k and no belts to change every 2 years. My only worry would be replacement fairing if i dropped it.
My choice would be the Desmosedici, but I would say that, wouldn't I? Foggy Rep, I think you've missed the boat on that one. Superleggera, overpriced Panigale. Panigale R doesn't really do it for me. What about a Bayliss 1098R? Great bike.
Couple of points with regards ... My only concern regarding the RR is.. I've only ever heard one running and it must be like having an alarm linked directly to the cop shop.. How ( as luvly as they are) you can actually ride one without being stopped by plod every few mins I will never know.. And secondly I notice on e bay there's a dealer in Sheffield always on there selling RRs for £60k and Fog reps at £38 k..? Unrealistic priced I think at mo anyway..
My D16RR has the race exhaust, and it's ridiculously loud. Yet I've never been pulled for it and even had a cop admiring the bike once (although I was stopped) The guy in Sheffield is mental with prices, hence why he has stuff for sale forever. There isn't a lot of anything about at the moment with it being xmas. I predict you'll start to see some stuff appearing in the new year.
If I was Australian perhaps ... Tbh though I'm not a fan of the 1098... ( wait for the protest from 1098 fans )
1098r and 999r, both fairly safe investments and double your chance of values rising and 15k left over for something else, nice dilemma to have.
I'm swaying slowly towards the RR .. What's the ride like? Firm I guess... And I guess everywhere you go you get attention... What's insurance like?
It's a big pussy cat. People have ideas that they are uncompromising, hard as a plank of wood and difficult to ride. Nothing sould be further from the truth, they are remarkably docile and easy to get on with. Insurance is errr..............expensive. Call Ducati Insurance. They will do some leg work for you in getting the best price.
The sheffield place is just down the road from me. I went in there when i was looking for a panigale and he has some seriuosly nice bikes. However the prices are mental. I will say thought that the owner is a nice chap who loves a chat about bikes /cars etc.
