Hey all, What I want to do is change the faces on me gauges to white (on the 748) Anyone know if this is possible and how difficult or if there is a company that can do this or someone on here capable? Cheers
I have white faces with Red lettering on my 998. They were originally done by Superdials who are now defunct. They sold everything to Lockwood, who mostly specialise in car dials. Here is a link but they do not list Ducati amongst the dials available now. They used to use a screen printing system\process so they should\could still have blanks. Motorcycle Dials - - Superdials.com I had mine fitted and there is a technique to removing the lens and bezel from each dial and it's not for the faint hearted. Calibration needs to be checked if the dials are removed and the faces changed. I still have a set of white faced dials with Lime green lettering!! and I can post a photo of them in their packaging if you want to see what they look like. The faces are not for sale though. One thing to be careful of is that when the job is complete you may suffer cracking of the lens or bezel in the future due to the disturbance of them both. It happened on my Temp. gauge so I had to get a broken second hand one to replace it. To be fair Superdials did it at the time for free.
Nice one red, will check em out. one of lenses is already cracked so I guess I better find one if they can do it.. Cheers
And yes a pic of your dails would be cool! want mine white with black numbers yours would give me a good idea of end result.
Mine look like originals only with Red writing\numbers. When illuminated they glow a pearl yellow and they are brighter than stock. I looked for my white\green ones but can't locate them at the moment but I will post a photo of my white\red ones tomorrow. The lens is attached to the bezel and they only come out as one piece. You used to be able to buy alloy bezels and then put in glass instead of plastic lenses. I have a set of Red anodised ones but have never fitted them. i can also post a a photo of my sons race 748 which does have white dials with black writing\numbers then you will get a proper idea. He has alloy bezels (silver)
Yes please! Like the idea of the alloy bezels too. that combo would fit my scheme perfect. Where would one find such an item? perhaps that lockwood crowd may be able to point me in the right direction. Look forward to the pics mate!
Bezels used to be supplied by Superdials and also another company that is also now defunct, which I cannot remember the name of. There is nothing complicated about them but they were carved from billet, about £50 for a set with plastic lenses at the time.
Here are some photos of the dials mentioned. The first is my 998 after they were first done and then my sons race bike. The bezels are the ones I purchased quite some time ago but have not yet been fitted, they did come with plastic lenses but I will fit glass for a better finish. I can explain the technique for bezel removal but it'd not easy if you do not have the experience. I have watched it being done.
Nice one red.. Yours look fab as do your boys.. looking at those i think i'd leave the bezels black on mine. I've got a carbon cover (for that foam) Which i'll get painted white, i think that with the white faces and black numbers and bezels should look the nuts!!! Thanks for the pics and info, will check out that lockwood outfit this week and go from there..
Good luck with it all, post up how you get on as I would be interested what Lockwood etc. have to say.
