White Frame 92 900ss - Would U Radically Customise?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by ck_uk, Aug 8, 2014.

  1. Got a restoration project on the go , just canvassing opinion about whether you would restore as original (preferable) or would it be blasphemy to chop the frame in any way? I think my mind is already made up but I value the comments on this forum so thought I'd put the question out there.

  2. chop it :upyeah:

  3. I'd restore.

  4. I'd go down the restoration path, but then I am biased as I've a white frame 750 to do.:upyeah:

  5. what about a happy medium - not full restoration, but more back to original-ish with mild improvements/upgrades along the way? I'm sorting of aiming for something similar with my 750SS.

  9. As above, unless it really isn't worth saving? I chopped up a white frame 750 to build my Pantah, but it was dog rough.

  10. Personally I'd restore or if (as I've a feeling you've already made up your mind to do) you do intend to do something else, then I'd always ensure that I could put it back to standard in the future if I ever needed to sell it. They're only going to go up in value in the future if they're standard - already happening from what I can see - but if heavily modified will only be worth what someone might want to pay for it in that state, if you could even find someone who liked what you've done.

How many bikes have you seen with weird and wacky paint jobs, annodised tat and mods that someone thought was a good idea at the time, but make you want to puke!?

  11. restore ...........if you don't like it flog it and buy a common model to hack to bits

  12. Thanks gents, am liking the suggestions. I think I will keep as standard as possible but with slight/subtle mods as you say. It's a half-faired model but I would like to make it as naked as possible I think, not entirely sure yet or how that could even be done.

These bikes fascinate me visually, so much to feast the eyes on it should all be on display I reckon. I suppose that's why it takes twice as long for me to get things like routine servicing done; half the time is spent studying the design.

I am currently addicted to these custom motorcycle sites hence why the slight dial emma, I did see one example of what can be achieved but it is quite radical and I just don't think I could do it to a white frame. I really admire what's been done here though.

  13. Well Miguel Galluzzi obviously was thinking like you too. Take a 900ss, take off the fairing, strip it back to basics and call it . . . .Il Mostro, The Monster!!

Why not go and buy one of those as a starting point, they're cheap and plentiful, unlike the bike you've got? Tell you what I'll give you a fiver and take it off your hands so you can stop beating yourself up ;)

  14. I'll raise you a tenner!!

  15. That 750 on Pipeburn is gorgeous!

  16. Restore, with reversible mods, should you wish to sell.

  17. I'd restore, but I have a thing for bone stock restorations.
