Who should help me with my 1098s?

  1. Hi all,

I'm struggling a bit with my 1098s at the moment and I have a feeling the previous owner may have tweaked the bike and I would like to get it put right, but I am not sure who to take it to.

I live near Newmarket so unless they will collect the bike and bring it back, I'm not too keen on travelling more than 100 miles or so.

I have used MCT near Stowmarket before but I know they are not a fan of Ohlins and I am not looking to replace what I'm told are perfectly good components.

I spoke to Seastar Ducati near Norwich for the Engine/tuning issues and they sounded like they knew what they were talking about but not very helpful on the logistics side.

Any help or advice gratefully received.

  2. Hi AlfG
Give Chris a call at X Bikes he has all the lastest software to re flash Ducati ECUs and a dyno my 1098s is with him at the moment he is just outside Wisbech and will fetch your bike and return when done. His number is 01945 585533 or 07799677889.

  3. My 1098s was supplied by Seastar from new. They fitted the Tremis', ECU and Power Commander 3. They have set it up on their rolling road and it runs silky smooth.

I've never dealt with them in person though.

  4. Now I know everyone's different, but I'll travel to where I feels best. I only use K-tech on my ohlins, there are a few agents around the country, and travel three hours each way to louigi moto in Bristol for anything else bike related, even though I have JHP about 40 mins away. Great people, great work, great price. CJS racing is on the same site so any dyno work can be done too.

  5. I assume you have dialled in the standard 1098S Ohlins suspension settings as a starting point? and has it got a ride hieght adjuster in it? if not then the rear geometry should be as standard, the only other thing I can think of is if the chain is knackered and the adjuster is set incorrectly giving a strange rear axle height and therefore geometry that's out.

I have heard amazing things about MCT, why don't they like Ohlins? because they think that they are compromised on mass produced bikes?

  6. Hey Alf,

I live near Newmarket too. I've had 3 Monsters in my time, 2 of which I bought new from St Neots Motorcycles. A smaller set-up than Seastars, but I'd recommend them.

    Hope you get it sorted.

  7. Suspension is sooo important.

Its probably the most vital component of the bike for making it feel like it should.

Unless the weather was bad bad...a long ride is a pain in the rear end ( unless its some hot chic ) But I'd go the distance to get it sorted.:upyeah:

I got mine done recently ( sag adjusted etc 0 and its like a different bike - for the better.

A 1098s is fairly trick, make it do what it should for you.

  8. I used BSD Performance in Peterborough, they re-flashed my ECU on my S2R 1000 after i put on a full arrows system. It took me 4 and a half hours to ride back, to London. Thats how good it was.:upyeah:
