So I'm on my way home from work this lunchtime doing 60 on a dual carriageway (A406 for any Londoners) when the car in front runs over n flicks up a house brick. Now I don't mean a small piece of rubble I mean a whole brick. I had absolutely no time to swerve as this brick is coming at me with a combined speed of 120mph but I do instinctively duck n try to make myself small. Anyway said brick missed the bike (multistrada) completely and I take a glancing blow to the outside of my left foot. Can't believe how lucky I was. Had it hit the bike I would've been looking at some serious damage (n possibly an off) it could've come higher n hit me square on the chest or of course my head (how good are Shoei's by the way?). Also glad I always wear the proper gear n never ride in trainers, t-shirt etc (I'm not judging those who do, I'm all about personal choice me.) my Daytona is pretty beat up but it's all superficial and no tears or real damage. Anyway a mile down the road n my heart rate is almost back to normal when a car a few cars in front of me spins out n hits the central reservation barrier. I pull up (along with a few others) n the windscreen is smashed n a brick is on the passenger seat (luckily no passenger). Poor fella made his own brick I think. So thanks to the tit that was dumping house bricks along this already notoriously dangerous road...
ffs.....make sure you report it. You have plenty of cameras overe there to find the culprit. Thats wreckless. You were lucy with that, do the lotto
The A406 not the best of roads, lucky boy springs to mind, now put your feet up and have a cold beer in your garden.
Mary Hinge. It's shocking I accept that! in my defence it was like it when I got here...and its a part house I don't use very often. Maybe we can have a "what should kempy do about that handle" thread? answers on a postcard to the usual address... maybe i should just go up B&Q, blindfold myself n pick one...I am feeling lucky . Or I could just learn to frame my pics better...should've put a wheelie bin in the background. Roadtrip, you had to mention beer didn't you. id love one but i'm stuck on soft drinks, back in work at 05:00 and with a zero alcohol policy Have for me will ya?
That is sobering. Rest assured I'm not making light of the situation, I know full well what the outcome could've been and tbh I was expecting to be confronted with that view when I approached the car that spun out. However like all emergency services personnel and armed forces some people cope by making light of a difficult situation. If anyone is offended I apologise but equally if anyone wants to make a joke I'm good with it (though I understand some may not be). I will driving that same stretch of road tomorrow and I wont bat eye lid. By way of info the Police were called and attended while I was still on scene and I gave a full statement. Lets hope the oaf is caught and duly dealt with.
The best way to deal with anything traumatic is to make light of it. Situations tend to be serious enough, without everyone pointing at the seriousness and saying how serious it is. Plus, it's funny.
By the time I got to the house where I was supposed to build an extension, I only had enough bricks for a BBQ. Did you find my tonne bag of sand?
Good advert for the Daytona boots though. Wouldn't ride in anything else at the moment. Glad you managed to get through without injury to you and the bike. Andy
Very lucky! I had a stone (or something), which was probably "flicked up" by the bike in front, hit my toe a few years ago. Hurt like hell, but as we were on a long ride out I decided to keep my boots on in case it was painful getting them back on. Luckily it was the brake foot. Got home and the entire toe was black and bruised and my sock covered in blood even though there wasn't a mark on my boots. I reckon it broke the toe (I wouldn't waste time going to get it checked just to be told there's nothing they can do, been there...done that...). I brick doesn't even bear thinking about....
