so....why did you choose ducati ??? hi all just curious why you chose ducati I had previously only had 1 twin beung a new (at the time in errrrrrrr 1998 crikey) TL1000R and liked it.... ...buy progressed back into i4 being the gsxr then r1 then gsxr again and I got bored of the stereotypical i4 delivery and soundtrack.. so after pondering I got my 1st ducati and so far so good.. my take...999s for back roads. handling and general poise sublime. compared to the japanese efforts..it has soul and looks lush so much so that I cant part with my 999. it will be a keeper. but am looking at adding a 1098 or 1198. so why did you choose ducati.....
Was my first bike, my only bike and still the bike I ride now. Remember having an epic few days out on a patrol around Bastion, got back to my pod, got a shower and collapsed onto my bed. Someone had left a bike trader out so flicked through it and came across a bright yellow bike that looked very nice. Promised it to myself if I managed to get back in one piece. Kept my promise and the rest is history.
I didn't choose Ducati, it chose me. Love twins, had a couple of Guzzis, a TL1000S and an RSV Mille; the Mille was too uncomfortable for me though, and a guy offered to swap his mint ST2. Deal done for no cash. Lovely, lovely bike. A while later I ended up with a Suzuki SV1000S, a wretched pile of shite, didn't do anything well, then out of the blue an offer of a Multistrada came. Another swap done. Life has conspired against me and the fuglystrada though, and I've only put a couple of thousand miles on it in 18 months. This summer will be different though; she's sat right outside my back door, just waiting for payday so I can tax it and fill it with fuel, then summer is officially under way.
Being of Italian descent I had a Ducati itch to scratch after years of JIL4's. I first tried to scratch the itch back in 2005 when the 1098 was launched, but after placing my order, paying a deposit and waiting for six months and still no news on when I'd get it I cancelled and bought a GSXR1000k6. Then last year I finally got the itch again. I had no reason to change as the R1 crossplane I had was a great bike, looked mean, handled well, sounded good and went like stink. But the itch continued. So when I found the 848 Evo Corse and could do the deal then that was it. Job jobbed. However it took some getting used to ergonomically, as it was more head down arse up than any of the JIL4 sports bikes I'd hever had. I really thought I'd made a huge mistake. But it was just a case of getting used to the stance. And now I love it. So in conclusion my bike goes like stink, handles sublimely, sounds fantastic, and looks like a super model! It attracts attention wherever its parked. I love it. The itch has been scratched
First bike, A CX500 in Blue. Bought it because it was cheap and I was only commuting. I didnt really research what bike I was going to have and didnt know the difference between a single twin four, v inline etc. Anyhow it felt and sounded ok. Traded it in for a Suzuki GSX600f and regretted it! Next up a GSXR 750 SACS, nice but not as nice as the red beauties in the window of the then Birmingham Motorcycles, that I passed on my daily commute. It was 1994 and the bike press was full of the new 916 which I really lusted after so I popped in to see one in the flesh. I quickly realised at 15K I was not likely to ever be able to afford one. Couldn't afford the 888SPS that was sat there either! Paso i.e? dont think so. It was then I fell for the salesman patter. He had a nice 900ss coming in on PX against a 916. Without looking at it or even researching the 900ss the px against my GSXR was done. Day of delivery on a rainy November night, it as delivered in a boxed trailer packed with foam and a roller shutter door. It was wheeled into the workshop and the light turned on. I fell in love, Carbon and polished bits everywhere. The salesman's face dropped as im sure he realised had he seen it beforehand, he could have squeezed a few more quid out of me! It came complete with a lengthy love letter regarding cleaning care, oil specs and how to deal with carb icing and the like. Never looked back 600 monster commute bike, 996 BP and now a Multistrada. The house is full of books manuals and other Ducati paraphernalia. I love working on them. I only wish, as im sure we all do, I had the budget to build a collection of the exotica. I still have the 900SS That 888 SPS will be mine one day!
Hard to put into words but a natural choice if you love Italian design - quirkiness/warts and all plus you aren't 'rolling in it'. I fiddled with Aprilias but not enough different flavours for me. The M.V. I wanted I could never afford etc.
The Paso knocked my socks off when I first saw one. I had several bikes over the years, but always, in the back of my mind ... Ducati. That styling really spoke to me. Didn't help later when when my mate bought himself a 750SS, it was and is a terrific looking bike. When money came up, I bought myself a 750 Sport ie, cheap and mostly cheerful and I thought my Duc itch had been scratched. Then those bastards introduced the 999, which coincided with more money becoming available and ... well, I had no chance. Or choice. Sublime.
had 750 bonnie brand new spent 8months back and forwards to meridan being fixed, the only way to get rid of it was to trade it in against 750gt that was 1974, 1976 swapped to 900gts. 1978 mv agusta. 1981 750gt and 750ss raced them for 16 years .1999. 748bp. 2000 996bp. 2004. 998bp.2006 st2 red. 2007 st2 yellow. 2009 996r.2013 900ss bevel. i think they get in your blood, the wife just thinks that i am MAD.
I can still mentally picture the place/noise/visual delight/tingling feeling back in 1995 when I saw/heard a 916. So that put a Ducati on my wish list. Bough a 996 from Freak back in Nov 2004 and never looked back even though I did write it off 3 months later!!(SMIDSY). Whilst my 999 was off the road last summer waiting for a new engine I test rode a S1000RR and Blade, purely to see what all the fuss was about. I hated the Beemer and could not wait to get off it, I did kind of enjoy the blade. But with both machines there was no sense of theatre and unless you were really winding them on it was boring.
I chose a Ducati because A) I couldn't find a rat Guzzi Le Mans at the right price; B) Good Guzzi Le Mans were far too expensive and; C) the Ducati cropped up in my search for the Guzzi and it was priced OK bearing in mind it had issues, so I took a chance. AL
It's a good question! 75% of time being in the saddle of my 1098 is a horrible place, stuck in traffic or negotiating tight turns and mini roundabouts in built up areas, constantly dipping the clutch with the engine stuttering and stammering because you're doing less than 60mph and the bikes taking offence to it and your arse is in melt down because you're sat on the exhausts. BUT when you get past the traffic and open that throttle and let it go and listen to the bellow from those Termi's all is forgiven. The power and torque is unbelievable, the way it flicks through the corners can't be matched. It's a place where everything perfect and brilliant about a bike comes together and when you're not sat on it you can simply just stand and stare at it with a big grin on your face because it's gorgeous and it's yours!.
