Wife Nicked For Speeding

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Mary Hinge, Feb 7, 2016.

  1. Last December she was late and hooning to the airport in her car to pick me up. Sunday morning on a clear M180 which is why she was hoofing it. She got zapped at 99mph by a sneaky policeman.
She's been summoned to court in a couple of weeks and she's bricking it. I've tried calming her down and told her she's looking at 6 points and a £300 fine. Of course she reckons it's gonna be an 8 to 10 stretch in solitary.
Any experience out there? What do we reckon? Oh, she's got 3 points already, the nutter....
    Thanks for any input, Paul.

  2. She's so far over the limit that she has no excuse unfortunately.

Dress smartly, be polite and take the medicine. :(

  3. 6 points and big fine I'd say.

They may do a short term ban though.

Can she get a letter from employer to say it would be bad for her job prospects to receive a ban.

I had 3 points years ago and got caught doing 126 leptons in a 50 dual carriageway (that's usually 70) at 11pm on a summers evening. I was sore after that day but didn't get a ban for reasons above. It calmed me down though and now I never go crackers

  4. I was followed by an unmarked police car on the M6. My recorded speed was between 80 and " just under 100". I was consequentially fined £50.00 and had 3 points added to my licence. No court summons, just that. Note to self- never think the grey bmw behind is just keeping up!

  5. 6pts + fine is likely. Although a short term ban is a cheaper and sometimes preferable option.

99 means she was over the ton (auto-ban) and magistrates will know that, but issuing the fine is economically preferable for them.

  6. Yeah, I got nicked on the M74 last year. I had my Bulmastif slobbering over my shoulder which was a bit distracting. When I looked up I had a mirror full of cop car with pretty blue lights. A quick glance at the speedo- 94mph... drat!
The cop was ok and we had a chat about Ducati's! I got a fixed £100 and 3 points. Ah well...

  7. I'd get her the box set of "Orange is the New Black" to calm her down

  8. Anything over 96 is a summons to court, years ago I got "chased" by a solo doing 106 on the A50 on a Sunday morning. Went to court with my brief and letter from work, 6 points and £600 fine. I had a clean licence though
    Good luck

  9. +30 over the limit is the automatic ban point.
Surely the M180 is a 70Mph limit, so no automatic ban.
If you need the car for work then get a letter, if it's just to get to work make sure you know all the public transport options and costs to prove it's not possible or viable.
At least 6 points and around £400 fine plus costs £75.
It may be preferable for a short ban 3-4 weeks as this means a clean license when it comes back.
Insurance wise 6 points and a big fine is seen as EXACTLY the same as a short ban, sometimes cheaper.
    All based on recent experience....

Oh and well done for convincing her to do a "Huhne", just remember you've got her for life now.;)

  17. 30 years or so ago, I was belting along a road (on which I lived, but some miles away from home) which had one of those obscure 30mph limits on a straight road where there were only three houses within the limit.........a Plod BMW passed me coming from the opposite direction and I fortunately looked in my mirrors to see his brake light come on and he started a U-turn........

....I dropped down two gears and wound it on, now out of the 30 limit.......hit about 120, then braked like hell, turned into my drive and drove straight into the garage, got of the bike, pulled the door closed and waited.........

...........sure enough 30 seconds later 'brrmmm' past my house, probably 90mph..........

Glad I was on my 1000RX.........

  20. Years ago a mate of mine got pulled over for driving erratically. He was in a Reliant Robin and had had a couple of pints. Police car pulled up in front of him just as he got home. PC got out, breath tested him and it was CLOSE but no crime. PC warned him and got back in the car. He waited for them to pull away but they waved him past. As he was outside his house he drove round the police car and went into his drive ripping the wings off the Reliant as he hadn't opened the drive gates! The police just drove off laughing! No points, no fine, no ban! :)
