Will fuel/air ratio be affected?

  1. Ok so it is not a help question. I have to much time on my commute from work using public transport.

Today I remembered Arquebus thread where he is trying to sort out his SS issues and is pissed off by constant need to put the airbox in/out.

We are talking about situation where bike is stationary.

Airbox works on a principle of compressing air during bike movement. There is size of airbox inlet X, volume of airbox and size of carb inlets Y.
On Monster airbox inlet X is bigger then carb inlet Y so like for like more air would go in to airbox then out. No air compression as bike is stationary.
Only air that carbs consume is what they can suck in and that it less then what airbox inlet can provide, I guess even at full throttle but stationary?
Going along with that thinking if I were to test fuelling (for example using gas analyser) with airbox on at stationary it should be the same as if I were to test it with airbox off, assuming no air filter in both situations?

Am I correct, asking as that should allow for easy-ish carb setup? Maybe not to perfect fuelling but a very good base no?
Arquebus could adjust some of the settings on the fly to see if it affects the issue?
I could put to test gas analyser I purchased in Poland (portable one) assuming it works.

  2. Lucaz you are correct in what you say...............too much fkin time on your hands.

  3. I know Phil that is not the worst thing I had on my mind. Gas analyser I got is for boilers so could that be used to measure gases of motorcycle? It is one hand device that measures gas temperature, ambient temperature, o2, CO, CO H2 (what ever that is), CO2 and pressure to 300hpa.

BTW it is for my dad but I could always "borrow" it later .......

  4. Keep away from gas boilers ffs!

  5. No argument there so sorry to disappoint. But to subject now!!

  6. Ha Ha  TBH i'm looking into flow in cylinder heads using water! I expect it's been done (not done any research) but it's used in other industrys.

  7. Hi Steve, i have noted that flow rate of beer into gob, multiplys 10 fold to bull s--t out of it hope this helps.

  8. Or cider Rod.....mind you, that calculation doesnt work with Floc...you dont need anywhere near the flow of that to produce the same end result....so does that make it a more efficient fuel ? Lol...
Lucasz, H2 is Hydrogen.......the stuff that burnt the Hindenburg down in 1936 ( I think ).....

  9. David that is 110% so true never again, well my be just 1 .r u doing angelsey.

  10. I leave for Anglesey tonight Rod....sadly I wont be racing, the Italian earthquakes have delayed the last parts I needed...the bike is running PLUS I'm pretty sure I found the problem that was causing the bogging down at Brands...so with a little luck all will be well......do you know what it was ? The fuel pump connection.....the clip wasnt quite catching it and under any strain on the wires it would pull apart fractionally....enough to turn the fuel pump off for a few moments before the gravity effect wore off and allowed the cable to return to its normal place.

  11. That sounds like Floc talking Nog.

  12. Hey Phil, you've camped up there before....are there electric hook ups now you've broken both our generators? Lol.....

  13. I really don't recall Dave, I'm taking a lead in case there is.

  14. There are two power towers in the centre(ish) of the paddock. Whether there is power in the garages remains to be seen. Sparkies where seen all over the place last weekend.

  15. Fantastic Mike.....cant do without power for the satellite tv and Burco tea urn !

  16. Smashing, your place to watch The Voice final then!

  17. Tell me you ARE joking......Lol...

  18. David it says CO H2 as one thing not separated.

  19. Could not fail to notice that I did not get a reply to my original questions? 1. At idle will air/fuel ration be affected if airbox is removed? 2. Can one use boiler gas analyser on motorbikes?
