Picked up my 848 yesterday and it has Supercorsas fitted that have done the 640 miles that the bike has done since new 4 years ago! They look barely leaned on and and look new. The bike has been in a garage and is spotless no sign of any corrosion. Would the tyres deteriorate over time they feel quite hard on the untouched areas which is a good 40mm either side.
whats the 4 digit date mark on them? if they are less than 5 years old then maybe they are ok but i would change them as they are likely to be flat spotted if bike has sat still a lot
Tyres should last a good while. They should be stored correctly tho.If it was me,Id use em,there again I ride like a girl.
The tyres look good, felt ok in the damp ride yesterday, I also ride like a granny in cold weather on a new bike. Ill maybe run myself and the bike in on them and then get some sticky stuff on in May/June
Just saw that the bike is640 miles from new.Yes,use them ,you wont be pushing them anyway while running in.Enjoy
I was given a tip by a tyre fitter to give you a guide to the condition of the tyre. When you push your finger nail into the tyre there should be give and your nail should leave an indentation. In about 15 to 20 seconds the indentation should go as the tyre reasserts it's shape. If the tyre is too hard to take a mark or the tyre doesen't reassert itself, change it. Andy
will try that tomorrow... my tires are only 6 months old so if this doesn't work im gunna be pissed at someone
I would imagine a cold tyre on a cold day would give less and return slower than a warm tyre on a warm day.
Sounds like a scientific test is needed. Try it before and after a burn out and report the difference please professor Chizel.
they would deffo look better in the dark.. and that is half the battle... wot u dont no wont hurt u init
Been trying to do the math and I think both my SRAD tyres must have been heading towards 10 years before I changed the front one in spring for MOT and I was starting to worry about them getting on a bit. Still got the back one on. It didn't spit me off. I only rode on dry warm days though. Mind you, the SRAD puts out a lot less power and is worth a lot less money.
Those standard dragon Pirelli tyres whatever they called are awful anyway in my opinion. I'd still use them for a few miles now and bin them in May ready for summer. I had bsb super corsa and they great.
I think I would rely on a visable test first to ascertain a condition of a tyre, let alone what compound structure it felt like given the temperature it was!!!
Agree with D8Mok, I picked up my 848 last September with Dragon Supersliders on, rode Glasgow to Manchester in torrential rain, it was an education for sure. It'd covered about 800 miles on them in 5 years prior to me picking it up. I put it in the shed and the next morning I took it to be shod in something more suited to the Pennine climate (I like Sportsmarts for my Transpennine commute). Spent the day after setting suspension up. Sorted. Can highly recommend getting suspension right as mine was a pig before I spent a day tinkering.
