Hi guys, will this cable work with my 899? I want to hook it up with my battery tender for trickle charging the bike when I’m not riding it. Also, I have a lithium battery, is it absolutely necessary to have a dedicated lithium charger, or can I make do with a regular battery tender junior? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/162984999934
Of you have a lithium battery you don’t need one. They last for months without losing charge. If you do need to leave the bike a long time just disconnect it.
Lithium batteries do indeed hold their charge for long periods but only if there is no drain. If there is any drain, they are no better than any other battery
Have lost 2 lithium ion batteries due to drain... Once they go past a certain voltage they are as good as paper weights.
Personally I would wire one straight to the battery, it's a simple job. You do need a lithium Ion compatible charger yes, and the statement regarding no drain is correct when there isn't a power draw on the battery but there is on the bike, the immobiliser etc use a tiny bit so best to keep it on a maintenance charger. Also, be aware if it's optimate that they changed the fittings, that looks like the newest style fittings but there is an older more 'block type' connector version.
my bike sat for easily 3m and started no problem. if its got a tracker or alarm etc it may have a drain but otherwise is fine. every now and then just pop the battery cover off and put a charger on it - The most basic crappy 12v charger will do - fancy chargers with soft start etc damage them, a basic charger on fast charge does the trick to top it up. I wouldnt leave a lithium battery on charge unattended. My son's 36v oset has a lithium battery and no way would i leave that unattended when charging.
