Wind blast screen adapters

  1. Has anyone got any of these fitted?

    What improvements if any?

Better or worse than a replacement screen?

    Aztec or Palmer Products kit?

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be obliged as although its not a major issue, I have noticed that windblast / noise is higher on the mutley than my old 996.

  2. I tried the parmer product, must say it did work in reducing the wind noise, but i did like the look it gave to the front of the bike, just a personal thing i guess..?

Not tried the aztec spacers, but i know they got rave reviews on here and previous Ducatsti forum

  3. I used the Aztec spacers, very good. You do have to remember that tearing apart the atmosphere at a high rate of knots is never going to an be entirely peacefull affair !

  4. I've got Aztec's ones and they are very good, but on their own don't eliminate it completely, but since I've just done 2500 miles around Europe in 8 days and my head hasn't fallen off, I'd suggest they work much better than the standard screen!

  5. Thanks for the rapid feedback folks, aztecs it is.

I understand the issues but there is a subtle line to draw between raising the screen a few degrees and attaching in effect a flat barn door to the bike.

The 996, despite me bonce being well above the screen, was strangely a quite quiet ride in terms of wind noise. I can only think that the wind is "leeching" around the sides of the screen causing turbulence and the subsequent noise. BTW I wear earplugs as a matter of course

  6. I too can confirm that Aztec's spacer are a big improvement over standard, I'm 6'2" and if I hunch a bit, its' considerably less noisy than standard set up at circa 80mph (wishing I was 6'0"!!).
I had a Palmer adjuster on my Tigger 1050 but found it to look too much like a meccano set, I think the spacers blend into the bike nicely and make enough of a difference for me to be a happy bunny. The other option is the shorty screen, again this was the preferred option on the Tigger as my bonce was in "free" air.
So, bang for buck, I reckon the spacers are the best bet

  7. Just a query really. Just been on a 2500 mile trip to Italy and back and yes, there was buffeting but no more than any other sports tourer I've had (ZZR14, 1200S, Blackbird). And this is with my standard screen cut down to create a shorty look.

I have read a lot of dissatisfaction with the screen, but to me its similar to the bikes above and as such, perfectly acceptable. Would be interested to know if the dissatisfaction is coming just from previous 'Adventure' bike riders and the screen is harsher than the GS's of this world, or whether other ex sports bike or sports tourer riders like me have no problem with it.

Ha! not sure that makes any sense at all but I think I know what I mean :)))

  8. Im basing the "dissatisfaction" on a comparison from the touring ive done on both my 900ss and 996. Yes there was a little wind blast from both screen but nowhere near as turbulent / noisy as the Mutley. Dont get me wrong In the short time I have owned the beast I love it but it was the first thing I noticed and its not necessarily at extreme speed.

BTW my riding gear is the constant that is iv'e not changed my helmet or other kit.

  9. Thanks folks

  10. I noticed the same, being 6'4" it is hard to get the right set up, on the multi i went for a puig screen, for two reasons, it is slightly highter that the stock one, and is shaped to provide better flow, and it is also avaliable as a tinted screen, and this in my opinion looked better on my white bike that a clear one.

  11. Tried the bigger screen, high/low position, tried a small screen, tried aztec spacers...

nothing worked, I didnt want to go bigger on the screen as they look horrific, so in teh end have settled for the pikes peak screen, lowest setting, ear plugs in, clean air, easy.

its not a scooter nor a bmw touring bike, so happy to have clean air, and still more aerodynamic than a naked bike up to 140 mph.

my advice is to go your own way and settle on some kind of compromise, in the end I have spare set of aztecs and a spare shorty screen, its not really a problem imo.

  12. Thanks folks, It appears that whats right for one isnt right for another. I have a little experimentation to do so first off I will give the aztecs a try and go from there.

I totally understand that this will not necessarily be a one stop shop, then again I may be lucky!

  13. Last day for postage will be this Wednesday 18th July

I will be back from my holiday on the 2nd of August

  14. Ill hold off until your return, I need the passing of another pay day to replenish the coffers.

  15. Aztec Screen Spacers.

I have been using the Aztec screen spacers and although not perfect have found that they do reduce head buffeting and wind noise, but a word of caution. When you place them on for the first time smear a little lubricant around the original fitting.

When I unscrewed the Aztec spacers the original fittings came off and remain inside the Aztec spacers, preventing me from re-installing the screen to its original position. After trying all sorts of things I couldn't get them out and have had to ordered a set of the original spacers from Ducati, would you believe they are AUS $55 each.

  16. Aztec Screen Spacers

Found a way to get the fittings out of the spacers. Put some thread lock on the exposed threads on the screen mount, screwed the spacers back on, left them for 24 hours and unscrewed them again. This time they came of cleanly and left the original fittings behind. Fantastic, now I can put on my short Puig screen.

  17. Just completed a 2.5Km trip to Loire valley and back using Puig sports screen on original fittings, no buffetting windrush on chest similar to naked bike but bearable. I did notice one thing I was wearing a Schuberth C3 and I got alot of whistling from the sun visor slider eventually I taped over it prob solved next I'm going to experiment with some diverter flaps attached to the fop of the front fairing to try and eliminate the windrush caused by the screen cutouts

  18. I've got a a Schuberth C3 with a Puig Touring screen & get the same noise from the vent as well. Putting some tape over it solves the noise but you loose any ventilation.
