Hi everyone … it’s been a while ! Still got the 998 and have added a Bayliss panigale to go with it…. But still have a big soft spot for Sophia. had it booked in for an mot this morning… but ended up not going due to no brake lights ….. Anyone got any ideas on this ? …. Issue is front brake micro switch not activating brake lights ….. Have checked micro switch and get 12v / 0v depending on whether switch is open or closed. rear brake pedal switch illuminates brake lights … so it’s not bulbs or tail wiring Checked fuse …all good. checked continuity between micro switch and fuse board …. Continuity as expected depending on whether switch open or closed. I’ve got continuity between the fuse board and the yellow and back wires going into the 3 pin amp seal plug under the seat …. But don’t appear to have anything on the centre violet wire with the switch either open or closed. as I understand it from the wiring diagram the front and rear brake switches are on the same circuit ….. and the rear works…. Which suggests the back loom is fine also. Kinda stumped at the min ! anyone got any ideas what to try next ? thanks
Short the cables at the brake lever. If you get brake light then problem is with switch or lever. Is there a pin on the lever that activates the switch? Is this missing?
I had a very temperamental switch just recently. Replaced with this one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30369327...ar=602949006967&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Soldered the wires onto it and potted it up with 2 part epoxy.
don’t think it’s the switch as get 12v / 0v with multimeter depending on on whether switch is on/off nothing if you short them by the way
You need to look at the wiring from the switch back then Set meter to diode mode and check continuity from switch to brake bulb holder
Nobody has mentioned the common problem on the 916 era bikes that the wires where they fit under the seat break. Hard to explain what I mean but a wire from the light is fixed to the underside of the seat withe female plug The wires that plug in come off the loom. They are known to break . I could take a photo but it's pussing down at the minute
