Withnail and I

  1. Has anyone here noticed the uncanny resemblance between the late great Richard Griffiths in his Withnail and I role as the lecherous gay uncle and the disgraced ex Co Op bank chairman/ Methodist Minister ?
I am rubbish with computers but can anyone put up a picture of the two side by side for us to marvel at the similarity ?

  7. Never seen it. And I want to.

  8. As pointed out in private eye. ;).

  9. IMO, its a tad overrated. Now I'm not undermining the movie, its very good, but clearly a zeitgeist for the late 80s. Watching it now, you'll be prejudice by your preconceptions.
Saying that, it is full of some great lines

  10. is that some of euphemism, bearing in mind where this thread started........

  11. The thing is, that the main character is dishonest, untrustworthy, cowardly, dirty, and broke ... but somehow you still have to like him. How did the scriptwriter do that?

  12. I think there are some actors who are just likeable whatever role they are playing, James Caan (not the chin stroker from dragons den) is one that springs to mind. Maybe that is the case here ?
