Just bought a 2010 standard Multistrada........ Really really hoping it not a pup!! first ride home was in the rain so just left it in touring mode and didn't get a chance to nail it. Been out on it this morning and it just won't rev past about 8000 in any gear in any of the modes, it feels like a rev limiter has been set but i wasn't aware it had that function. There also doesn't seem to be any difference in the power delivery between the modes. It has got just over 14,400 miles on it and it does come up with "Desmo service 600 miles" in the circular display when you turn it on so I'm hoping the engine management system goes into some sort of factory set 'reduced power' until the service has been completed and everything's reset ??????
No, sorry maybe I wasn't clear. It has a full Ducati service history. The 'Desmo service 600' message I think means its due the large 15,000 mile service in another 600 miles.
I see. Of course, the 15k is the Desmo service! Sounds like something isn't right. It doesn't "lockout" or anything. Mine was 16k+ before I had it done. Was it a private sale? 15k's the big service. Hope you had a deal.
Yes it was a private sale and I factored in the service costs in the deal so it's not a surprise. He did say it had been in for the recall for the latest ECU software updates so I was also wondering if they have a running in mode that's been activated.... I think i probably Bet give the local dealer a call in the morning and see what he says.
Just a note about your comment "running in mode", they don't have one. Bought a new S Sport last Sept and if I had been inclined could have revved the nuts off it. Get it checked out.
Hmm, not really. ECU updates were something to do with the ignition switch and I think ABS. Valve tolerances might be off or something. You know a good dealer? Just a word of caution. Not all dealers are the same. Worse ones usually the multifranchisers.
Worth checking the exhaust flapper valve (exvl) isn't sticking, that would give you some problems if it isn't working correctly Located behind the heat shield if you have a standard or slip on termi..
Yep,I had exactly the same problem twice & it was the valve. Best to disconnect it & get your dealer to switch the warning light off. There's also a bodge using a spring to fool the system. See your dealer, mine did it free
Yes that's what my guess is what it is, ex flapper is probably seized closed, it seems to be quite common
....yep it was the value rusted shut..... All sorted now. Interesting design and choice of materials from Ducati!!!
Just leave it alone...Multistrada 1200S Best....Bike....Ever....IMHO without peer (2013 model yet to be ridden).
