  1. 750ss. Won't start
Started first time after a month in the shed, now won't start , fitted a new starter solenoid, not fixed it , but it's making a clicking noise ( and it smells bad)
    Any ideas?

  2. smells of what? Fuel? Burning smell? Has it shat itself..?

Clicking noise is typically a dud battery or a charging problem. Most of the checks in this thread would be relevant

  3. Sounds the same as the problem Al just had, sprag clutch?

  4. Smells like sulphur
I assumed that because the battery was conected to an optimate it was ok, I thinking it could be a duff battery

  5. Yep......there was a sulphur type smell with the problem I just experienced..........the battery that was failing still had 12.3 Volts after a charge, but it couldn't turn the engine over and it also appeared to have caused the starter sprag bearing to fail........(the spring was stretched and kinked).......

........looking at the old battery in the light, there are two cells that have blackened.

    All fixed now it seems.

Just try changing or borrowing a battery initially.

  6. If the battery terminals are corroded, the starter solenoid will click, put a big load on the battery and the connections on between the battery posts and terminals will break down, so nothing. Usual symptoms are lights etc on the dash, then press starter and lights go out, all appears dead - is that what you have?
Other things are relay on right side of headlight/dash subframe and top fuse on the fuse block to left of dash not making proper contact.
Could also be duff battery of course.

  7. I had a similar problem, turned out to be the starter motor brushes.

  8. Seemed like a battery problem but wasn't.
