For Sale Working 1998 748 Biposto Engine (now Sold)

Discussion in 'Parts, Accessories & Clothing For Sale' started by FallingMage, Dec 9, 2014.

  1. I recently finished installing the SP engine I got from another forum user, so I'm getting rid of the original engine now as I need the space (its sitting in my kitchen atm).

It was running fine before I decided to take it out of the bike.
As you can see from the photos, the paint needs some tlc.
The valves and belts were done 3 years ago.
Not had metal in the oil (I've drained the oil to make it a bit lighter), though I didn't do the first oil changed after the work was done.
It had done about 28k miles (forgot to check the exact amount when I wrote this).
I got it with 23k on it and it had been well looked after (I was given a lot of receipts with it).
I like to do most of the work on the bike myself so don't have many receipts for it since I got it. I have probably spent more time working on it then riding it. Though I can happily say that the engine was one area that didn't give me any problems.

Looking to get £300 for it.

Send me a PM if interested.

PS. I have the parts for a clutch somewhere that I can give you.

  2. thats got wider belt covers by the looks of it

  3. Yeah, they have never looked right to me. Could they have come off a different model?

  4. 748/996 R's had wider belts on them so ducati had to put wider covers on them too. its not a 748r engine is it??

  5. No, a normal one. I've had it 4 years.
I know the person I got it off had a few Ducati's, I wonder if he put the wrong covers on it.

  6. 748R engines do not have any casting "names" like Desmo etc. on the heads they are totally plain, they also have different sized cam access covers compared to earlier engines. The belt covers are from a 748R as you can see the bosses on the back of covers in the photos, they are completely interchangeable throughout the whole 748 range apart from the later E model.
