Just stopped for a coffee and started to surf through the MotoGP web site. Reading through a high level breakdown of the philosophy behind the changes for 2027, I came across this extract. (I highlighted the last 2 sentences) “Will MotoGP™ be slower? And will it still be faster than WorldSBK? Manufacturers estimate – depending on the circuit – the 2027 bikes will be around 1-2 seconds a lap slower than now. And then the race begins to develop and innovate again! But MotoGP™ has the highest performing bikes in the world, with the world’s greatest riders, and it will continue to be that way. As MotoGP™ evolves, so will WorldSBK. Stay tuned for more on that as the FIM working on some changes there too” Say what you like about the relevance of the modern day sports bike (nosedive in sales, too fast for short race circuits, yada, yada, yada) this smacks to me of deliberately reigning in WorldSBK so it isn’t the better spectacle when the ‘new MotoGP era’ doesn’t set the world on fire. No surprise really, such a shame to dumb it all down, but do agree with getting rid of some aero and ride height nonsense, but should be 1000's. None of it is relevant to the real world, nor is F1, as who rides/ drives at 200 mph and brakes for a corner 100 metres away down to 50 mph, but who cares it racing and it's good (usually)
Worth noting that WSBK electronics are F1 levels of advanced, way way more advanced than MotoGP, so it makes sense to bring it inline again. I still think alignment of world Superbike to domestic classes is a must also to allow wildcards, else the series will die in a few years.
