1260 Wow ... Happy To Have Learned This ...

  1. i managed to lightly biff the rear bumper on an Audi station wagon with the left pannier of my 1260s, while maneuvering through group of stationary cars waiting in line for a traffic light a few months ago. this light scuffing of the black plastic is pretty much the only cosmetic defect on her, after 26,000 miles, and i do suffer from OCD when it comes to my motos ... so this was troubling to me.

i started looking to replace the outer lid of the pannier, as on my 1200s, the lid was only two pieces, the black lid, and the red color cap. and the black plastic piece was not cheap.

yesterday i learned that the panniers on the 1260 (and i believe the 1200 model from 2015 up) have three piece lids ... and the color cap, the main inner lid, and an outer lid "cover", which is the part i scuffed. to my bigger surprise, this cover piece is priced reasonably ... well, as reasonable as a Ducati OEM part can be ... at US$72.

a replacement cover has been ordered up, and expected from Italy in 1 week.

  3. My 2015 panniers are showing a few battle scars but I won't be replacing the cover, as I expect there will be a few more before I'm done.

  4. actually, when i felt the bump, i looked back at the audi ... not even a slight scuff.

  5. I replaced mine when the bike toppled over on a French mountain, sadly I initially ordered the wrong side and had to buy a second one as well (I’m keeping the spare for now)

  6. You and me too.

When I've finished with this bike it won't be worth a lot.

  7. i removed the cover ... easy-peasy.
now, waiting for the new part to arrive from Italy.

  8. Yes - I had the same issue scuffing one of my panniers when I dropped mine whilst stationary.
I replaced parts #6 & #7 below and just FYI ... part #1 (the Ducati badge) was not needed as it was already on the red coloured part of my pannier.
