Hi All. I had wrist surgery about 10 weeks ago (Proximal Row Carpectomy), and me recovery is going well. Itching to get back on the Hyper this weekend, but a little nervous how the wrist will hold up. Anyone here had a simelar op and can advise recovery times? Full recovery should take 6 months, and the surgeon said as long as I have enough grip strength I should be OK (which I do).
Which wrist? If it's your left, that clutch is going to be tricky until you get all your strength back. After I broke my wrist, I needed exercises to get the strength back - it took a few weeks to get some strength back and I still haven't fully recovered after many years, although it's nearly there, close enough. You should get a squeezy ball or a hand spring thing, to gently exercise and restore the muscles.
El Toro - I have tested it in all the usual ways.... Loz - it's the right wrist. Am working on the stregth as you suggest, and it's still stiff - but it was before the op (more so) som I'm used to riding without much wrist mobility
Just get on but take it real easy and see how you go - was away from bikes for 14 months after my prang, but thought "ok let's give it a go". Tbh was a bit too early, but you'll soon know ya self if you're not quite there. Good luck and enjoy - find I can't ride like I could previous but find the challenge and enjoyment have increased in about equal ppns.
Best strengthening exercise for it would be to take the bike out and just potter about till it starts to get sore. But just don't overdo it in the first few rides, nothing worse than a setback.
I had a flexor tendon repair 7 years ago after cutting my hand almost in half. I still have low strength compared to my other hand, no feeling in 2 fingers and a disturbed sense of hot & cold but I am able to use my hand to full effect. It was more about adapting for me me rather than getting back to my original condition. I have pics somewhere if you want to seeing the gore
Thanks guys- made it out on Sundat for a couple of hours. As the Hyper is upright, not too much pressure on the wrist. Not 100% but practiced a few emergency stops and hit some big bumps without a drama. Very very nice to be back on the bike
