1098 Wrong size paddock stand??

  1. Afternoon all,

Need some quick help. Bought a genuine ducati rear paddock stand for my 1098 from eBay. Went to try it today and it won't fit in??

It was listed for a 1098,1198,848. The strange thing is that it will for the wrong side of the swingarm perfect but won't even contemplate the side it should go. Looking down the internal diameter it looks like a weld/lip halfway down meaning the two ends are different sizes by a few mm.

    Is this right?

  2. I've had it before on my 748 where a tiny bit of the circlip securing the sprocket side pokes through too far onto the cavity and stops the paddock stand pushing all the way in... probably worth a look...

  3. early 1098's had a bigger 'axle'....i'e. there are 2 sizes

  4. Bollocks!!!

Just had a measure up and the stand pin is 42mm and the axle diameter is around 41mm.

    Mine is a 57 plate??

Find it strange that the two sides are different diameters.

  5. I thought there were just two sizes.
848 small, same as the old 916 size.
    1098/1198 big.

  6. Is the pin removable? you could then have it turned down.

  7. they are different side to side.

Ducati dealers can supply the right size spindle so you could swap it out.

  8. Yes - the sprocket side is different to the wheel side.
I don't believe there were two different sizes for the 1098 that the stand slips in to.

  9. The 2007 1098's are a different diameter to the rest i am afraid.

  10. F*%K. I didn't know there was a difference in the years. Obviously. Looks like I better look into getting a new pin or selling it for another one.

Where can I get hold of these pins and How much?

Just tried my local Ducati dealer and they said they can't get the pins separate for genuine stands only the Biketek one's. Looks like I should have gone for the cheaper version than the genuine one.

  11. Yes there were 2 differing types for the 1098. 40 & 42mm. On a plus side yours will fit other later 1098's and 1198's. Easy to sell. Depending on the make there are some pins for sale on ebay. I use my 916 paddock with a nylon sleeve turned to fit my 1198. Saves me having 2 paddock stands to trip over. As someone mentioned. take pin out to local machine shop and get it turned down.

  15. you can buy 40mm nylon OD straight from ebay. Cut to length and if you have access to a bench drill, and a 25mm (i think thats the 916 axle ID from memory) drill bit then job done.
