Discuss.... i also think that not airing the championship on terrestrial telly has adversely affected its popularity..i may be wrong because of my age, but i still think the glory days were the Foggy, Slight, Chili era...
sure most of us think of foggy, whitham, chili ,gobert era, and i may have neglected it a bit over certain years, but really enjoying it at the moment, good stuff, love it! com on sykes : )
It's shown on Channel 4 at silly o'clock in the morning, granted it's only a 25 minute highlight but better than nothing.
Nah, far from boring really. WSBK is superb at the moment and as long as they stick to the tracks that they do it'll stay that way with a bit of luck. Monza was brilliant, that first super stock high side crash at the first chicance set the tone for the day, it was classic monza stuff. dosnt bother me there's no Ducatis up the front row, all the riders in with a chance I like apart from Melandri, there's just something about him. Guintoli is such a genuine bloke and really like him, sykes is just bonkers fast on every Superpole but helmet off and like a down to earth farmer (or Jesus since his new beard), laverty is picking up the pace and even Chaz could get another look in. love WSBK day
Rose coloured spectacles I fear, we have a new Mr Superpole in the boy Tom, the 1199 will come good when Chukka recovers and the race can currently be won by any one of about 6 drivers. What's not to like?
Oh I'd support his mrs.....and her assets i just think he's a little mardy sod i mean c'mon, his eye view is directly in line with her norks all day, wtf isn't there to smile about?
Racing, like the movies, needs good guys and bad guys. Or to put it another way, the riders' personalities are more important than you'd imagine, and despite some cracking racing there's something of a lack of personality in SBK at the moment. Certainly since Max retired.
I thought it was just me. Could be an age thing I suppose. Frankly though, if there aren't a couple of Ducatis in with a chance of winning I do find it a bit dull because in that case I don't care who wins. A bit like watching the Champions League final between two German clubs - it may be great football but if you're indifferent to the outcome... The Foggy/Falappa seasons were the very best for me but it was probably also the whole era of my life that contributed to making it so.
I'm 35 and I agree completely. Even though I have sky I really don't feel world superbike is especially interesting, bsb is far more relatable
I think the only boring thing is watching Rea on a bike that just isn't fast enough I mean com on Honda. Rea deserves a championship, honda need to get there act together.
always enjoyed my bike racing be it BSB, WSB, MOTOGP, only time i felt it was boring was when mick doohan was racing in GP, sadly he was just to good to make it exciting
again ducati off the pace what with that shed in motogp and now the new panigale not up for the job ducati racing in the duldrums
ive heard that attendances are much lower than a few yrs ago..when i went to valencia it was utterly tedious and people were leaving before the end of race two..the track was only half full to begin with, and thats in spain where theyre mental about bikes.
When I went to Valencia to see the GP quite some years ago, I went to practice and then didn't bother to go to the race. Had hideous tickets from a tout, a mile away on the baking "piedras". it was going to be like sitting on a BBQ for the day, being sandblasted, followed by a trip to Barcelona. Not worth it. Ended up seeing the race from a motorway services on the telly.
