X-lite X-802rr

  1. Decided to buy one of these to replace my useless whistley, misty GT Air.
Had been hanging out for the new Schuberth R2 but got fed up with waiting. It was either that or a Shoei NXR. But I tried one of these on and it is lighter and more comfortable than the NXR and in the shop at least, it was definitely more snug and quieter. Helmet City are doing me one for £400

I'm a little concerned about spending £400 on Nolan that's been built by Italians, especially as some of the cheaper X-Lites look a bit rough round the edges, but this is top of the range and other than a BMW Motorrad at nearly £500 which are now made in China, I couldn't find anything else that was light, comfortable and quiet and which actually fitted my head.
Hope it will be alright. I let you know. Got a weeks tour coming up just after I pick it up so it'll get a good testing, wet and dry no doubt. Fingers crossed. Looks good though..

  2. I've had mine over a year now and couldn't be happier with it. Weight, fit, comfort, build quality, quiet, ventilation, all excellent

  3. Hi G, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the GT Air, as I'm actually considering buying one. I've always had AGV and I've never had an issue with any of them, but I fancied a change and tried a GT Air which I found very light and comfortable. I always wear ear plugs when riding and so noise is never an issue with my AGV's and so I would think it would be the same with the GT Air. The X-Lite looks great but I had one of these before, albeit about 15 years ago and even with ear plugs I found it very noisy, but I suppose they have improved a lot since then though.

  4. I love mine. Comfy and quiet. Great build quality.
As with any helmet fit will depend on your head shape.

  5. Best lid I've ever had. Been through a couple of them. Mistakingly went out and bought an AGV this time and I can't wait to be rid of it. Got my eye on a carbon X-Lite at the mo.

  6. Love mine, have found the visor mists a fair bit even on +10 temps, that is the dark visor without pin lock , I can't seem to take out the chin and nose covers as I am sure a bit of airflow from under the chin area would cure the problem.

  7. The X-Lite pin lock is perfect. Far, far better than my current AGV lid which, I may as well be smoking a fag with the visor down.

  8. I must get one for my dark visor, I put the free one in my clear one, can/ have you removed the fabric chin section ?

  9. I'm a convert to HJC helmets.
After years of top end lids I tried one on recently and the fit was just perfect , only to be bettered by it's on the road ventilation, lack of noise and visor .

I don't use the perfect word very often but I would with this lid. It was the RAPHA 11 non carbon so I paid £260 including spare visor. Makes a £650 Arai look like a bad joke.

  10. I have a RAPHA 10 and I can't stop the thing misting up in winter even with a pinlock, best visor mechanism out there tho

  11. There are good deals out there at the moment on some designs in the X802RR range. I received my Danny Kent replica from the Rocket Centre a few days ago for a very good price and am really impressed with it.

  12. About £250 for a Kent one... probably less now he's a quitter ;)

I've my eye on the Petrucci carbon :p

  13. I knew there had to be a reason! I paid 200 so he's done me a favour - thanks Danny

  15. I've had a lot of trouble with visor alignment. It seems to shift on its own and then the visor won't locate with the locking tab. Also it mists. At least four Shoei dealers have looked at it and carefully realigned everything, cleaned it, adjusted the pinlock tabs and refitted the insert and its made no difference and by the time I get home I've got a mist patch over my eye and the pinlock seal has let go. On top of that the first time i removed the liners to wash them all the poppers they attach to which are supposed to be bonded to the shell came away as well. The lid had to go back to shoei and it took them six weeks to get it back to me. The misting isn't helped by the fact that the venting isn't very good either.

The guys at Helmet city did tell me that there have been a lot of problems with a particular batch of GT Airs in L size. I guess I bought one of those. Maybe they've solved the issues now, I don't know. If you don't use the sun visor I'd get something else that doesn't have one. If you look at the GT Air closely the drop-down does compromise the design. The outer visor is thin and flexible and there's a lot of movement of the liner against the shell, all because of the sun visor. The NXR had no sun visor and the hinge, lock-down and the main visor itself are all of a different design.
It is a comfortable helmet and reasonably quiet but also quite hot and I think there are better sports-touring lids out there for the money.

Like Mr T I also like HJC but none of them fit my head. The chin piece feels like its going to knock my teeth out. Same problem for me with the new Bells which is a pity because they look great are getting good reports. But it ain't no good if it doesn't fit. If your not in a hurry you could have a look at the Shuberth R2 when it finally comes out. It should be good.

  16. Thanks for the information, it really is useful as I was taking a bit of step into the unknown with Shoei, as I said I've always stuck with AGV after trying Nolan, Shark & HJC. I'm not in any hurry and so I'll wait to hear how you get on with the X-Lite and I'll also have a look at the Shuberth range. Thanks again.

  17. Had my X-Lite for around 6 months and I can't fault it at all. Worn in all temperatures and weather conditions and it's been fantastic.

  18. All sounding good so far...

  19. Guess I'd best stay true to form... I have a carbon X802-R and don't like it.

No idea what the difference is between the R and the RR but my R isn't a patch on my Schuberth SR1s. I wear the SR1 almost exclusively whilst the XLite stays in the box and not because I wanna keep it purdy. IMHO pretty much everything about the Schuberth is better, better internal materials, better features, better venting, it's lighter and has zero lift oh and it's really quiet too if you close the ear switches.

  20. Its also not in the shops...
