Hi, looking to upgrade regular halogen lights on carbie 750ss and was hoping to buy something similar to this; 2 x XENON MEGA WHITE H4 12V SUPER BRIGHT HEADLIGHT BULB | eBay Was wondering on legality, whether I need to do a conversion and considering that it's the same wattage as current halogen, it won't burn out too soon?
You may as well go the whole hog and go HID with something like this... Xenon HID Motorcycle Headlight Conversation Kit- H4 6000k- 2 Years Warranty | eBay PM Nelson on here, he'll have loads more info on them, he did it to his 848 with a kit that came with two and gave me one, but I have no details on which it is or the bulb temperature Anth
Cheers. Hmm, a full conversion. I just wanted a bulb but I see that the kit includes a deflector to stop dazzling on the right hand side.
I did a full conversion on my rsvr. It makes a massive difference to both daytime riding (cars move over much earlier) and nighttime. I think the imitation bulbs don't really emit much more light to be honest. I used hids2u who are a bit more expensive but the ballast was super slim. Rob.
Cheers. Will have to consider it next month when I have some money. One last question mind, all the kit on ebay and the one on hids4u are all 35w. Will these be ok on 55w electrics?
Im about to order some 100% brighter bulbs from these guys: Ducati Motorcycle Bulbs. Headlights, Tail Light, Brake Light, Indicator, Instrument Panel
I did the dip on my evo...Bloody marvelous! (We need a "rocks" smiley...!!!) Anything that makes yr more visible gets my vote!
Can't recall the exact kit. 55w 6000k though. There's bazzions of them on ebay. I bought a pair and gave one away. You see some singles on ebay where peps have bought one and are flogging the spare. I tucked mine in the secret compartment in the R/H fairing, others have put them in the nose. Gotham Cycle's Prolumen 55w HID Kit Install - Detailed Pics - ducati.org forum | the home for ducati owners and enthusiasts Pretty straight forward to do. I don't often ride at night, but when I have the OEM glow worm is bloody scary where there are no street lights!
I run a 35W slim ballast HID kit on my 748 low beam - fantastic; more visibility which was the main thing for me and better nighttime/ dusk vision. Now, just to upgrade the rear lights to something more 'visible'
I know just what you mean. Hardly ever ride in the dark but on holiday last year the ferry docked at 04.00 so was pitch black. It was also light rain so visibility was crap I shat myself. All I could do was follow the tail lights of the other bikes. Lots of these kits on flea bay but worried about melting the housing. That was why I was asking what you had fitted. Regards Steve
Nelson, Thanks for that link V informative. As you got a pair why did you not do both lights my high beam is useless. I like the secret compartment. They say they have no problem with heat build up but it must generate heat and can not see how you would get any air flow through the compartment. Regards Steve
My thinking was the dip stays on when the high is switched, so one should suffice. Not tried it in anger yet TBH. Many peps have fitted to both sides, dip and high without any issues. I think the ballasts get hot, but not so hot anything is going to melt! If you're worried fit them in the nose. Personally I wouldn't have a bike (well a Ducati with shit lights) without now.
Try; Custom LED Ducati 1994-2002 916/995/996/998/748 Integrated LED Tail Light very bright; the rear lights are as bright as the standard brake lights and the indicator function works well too.
I fitted a HID conversion on my 749 .... great result. Full kit was a model specific plug and play kit from ebay. Went for the 6000k colour. Cost about £45 to £50 ish 2 years ago. Only fitted on low beam. There is a slight delay in HID bulbs "igniting". Hence, not used much in high beam as they may not "ignite" if you just flick the high beam flash for a second. 6000K Diamond White 6000K has an approximately 2800lm output, which is 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and slightly less light output compared to the 5000K. Although it has a bit lesser light output, it emits pure white light with very slight and barely noticeable tint of blue and purple
