Have now changed LH grip after they stopped working and couldn't get a resistance reading through the LH element.....still no warm hands. The "heated grips activated" symbol flashes up when I first start her up but then doens't seem to appear very often at all after that during riding. I'm sure when they were working it used to flash up that message quite often. Does anyone know the timing of that message when the grips are working as normal? As in is it once a minute or something and for how long? I've checked the battery reading on the dash and it seems to be healthy, not sure where to go from here.
I replaced mine today and all working fine now. Are you getting a resistance on both grips now ? You can also try continuity between the grips to make sure that the there is not a cable issue between the grips.
Bike is 2012. I have yet to test resistance on both grips but previously the RH had given 7.5 ohms and the left nothing which is why I've replace the left. How do I test for continuity of both?? Thanks
grips are wired in series. In basic terms you have an incoming feed to the grips. In through the element and back out to the next grip in through the element and back out to complete the circuit. So best would be to try testing between grips on either connection there should be continuity on 1 of the connections between each grip. If you have resistance on both grips then it's either the controller or a wiring fault. have you tried disconnecting your battery for a short period and then tried grips.
Well bugger me, my heated grips are working again. It's only the hottest day of the year so far in bonny northumberland. Disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and we are up and running. Thanks for the tip P4ULG, much appreciated.
Bastardo right hand one failed yesterday, noticed the LH one getting hotter than it should on low setting and the right hand one going cold before they both shut down. Bollocks.
