749 Yet Another Termi Question?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Mongoose, Aug 14, 2015.

  1. Considering I'm the only Ducati owner in this universe that doesn't have a termi fitted on my 749 I thought it was about I put this right. Ive possible stumbled across a rear section only that the owner says that it'll just slip on the standard system already fitted to my bike. Mines A 2006 bike and thus silencer was fitted to a 2003 model. To the best of my knowledge it'll fit as I'm certain that the only difference is the link pipes from the shallow sump/deep sump bikes which are not interchangeable. Is this the case or am I missing something? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I'm feeling left out in the cold and want to join the Termignoni gang!

  2. You also have to consider grey or black swing arm. You definitely need the front link pipe as this will remove the front Cat.

  3. I was in the exact same situation as you.
A can from a 03 will slip on your stock link pipes, however since you also need the link pipe the 03 model will hit your swingarm.

Running the can with the stock link pipes isn't advisable as one cylinder will have their cat removed and the other will not. Resulting in one cylinder being able to blow freely as the other will not.
You could get your stock link pipe De-Cat'ed by someone that can weld (I know a guy, but it's in the Netherlands).
Or you should get a link pipe for a 05-06 model with shallow sump. If you want I'll post some pics of mine, also a 06 model which got the termi fitted very recently.

    Grtz,

  4. Or you could go for the el cheapo solution which is in no way less of a solution.
take out your pipe and at the part where it is bulging let a welder or machine shop
cut it open, just smash the cat out and weld it shut.

I haven't done this myself but have seen pictures of it on forums. Just search for
decat or coring of standard exhaust, there it is also done. Can't think of why this
would be less of a solution. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

  5. I don't have termi's, I have standard exhausts.

  6. It's an investment. They'll only get rarer and rarer, so why not? DB increase is added bonus ;-)

  7. And when you drop a few gears prior to an overtake then there is no doubt about your intentions and is a bit of a warning that you are coming throo !!!

  11. Oh, and another thing, be sure to order a new set of conical exhaust rings from your local Ducati dealer. Mine didn't have them in stock and had to be ordered so I reused the old ones, which is possible to get them out with some teflon spray, but it's better to just order a new set.
