Hi all Just wanted to share my excitement with you all I will pick up my 1098 S in approx 2 weeks time from the dealers ! yey! just a couple of questions I have if anyone can help. Can I add footpegs to it ? It hasn't come with them but I have seen some on ebay and just wanted to check i could simply bolt them on I posted on here a couple of weeks ago re the open clutch kit which I will be getting soon, does anyone know how long it takes to fit one and if there are any instructions anywhere (thanks for the youtube vid that was posted on my other posting) I have a maintenance battery charger i want to fit to the terminals so that I can just leave the wire poking through the fairing and connect when i get home if needed. I know its stupid but can I just disconnect the battery add the terminals then re connect without damaging anything ECU/ Digital dash wise? and also is it just part or all of the fairing that needs to be removed sorry for so many questions and also thanks for any replies its appreciated
Rear footpegs will fit as long as it has the original rear sub frame fitted. A clutch cover will take 20-30 mins to fit as you'll probably have to remove some of the RH fairing Yes, just disconnect the battery termonals and add your charger lead. No need to reprogram anything. You'll have to reset the time on your clock though.
Footpegs. I presume you mean passenger. Yes you can. I don't think the 's' came as monoposto but you never know. Clutches are easy and quick to fit. It can take as little as half and hour if everything goes perfectly. Buy a holding tool from ebay. Make sure you have a socket big enough for the large nut and a torque wrench capable of torquing it correctly. Other than that the jobs an easy one. Normally. I have an optimate and I have the socket poking through the lhs air scoop.
yes sorry I did mean pillion passenger I just wanted to know if I could by some and bolt onto the bike its a 58 plate and doesn't look to have had mods in this area. Just found a prev thread that says the Panigale as some sort of 90 sec delay after ignition off so don't disconnect during this period. Is there anything to be aware of re this on a 1098 to connect a c tek charger ?
Bootsam is talking about changing the clutch hub not the preasure plate, as for the charging lead, if unsure take it to the dealer beforeyou pick the bike up and have them do it. Steve
sorry to confuse things chaps it is the plate and springs kit that I am looking at actually changing not a worn clutch as it were thats how long I wanted to know would take to fit ?
Lol, I assumed he meant a slipper clutch. Fancy pressure plates are for girlies. I'm also not a fan of open clutches. If the bike goes down on rhs...Ive mullered one OEM and a carbon one so far. The carbon one disintegrated. Fortunately it was at 2mph.
yeah I know but i do like the look of them and if the bike goes over, its gonna do expensive damage anyway whatever!do you mean the carbon cover on the open clutch cover disintegrated ? I was thinking of getting that bit in ally for the open cover that covers the pressure plate and springs
Thats true. The pegs'll get mullered too. Ive replaced two also, hence cheap rear sets from now on. Until i can find some stabilisers and remain upright. Plus I don't like the clutch rattle, hence I've opted for oem steel cover. Just preferences. Had I not fallen off I might be a tad more welcoming to open clutches and fancy rear sets.
thanks Birdie think i have read somewhere that some bits have marks on and have to make sure that the marks line upon the new one when putting on ? anyone know of any instructions anywhere for fitting these things ?
the new plate will have a dot at one of the mounting holes that will line up with the mounting post with a notch on it. as for the rear foot pegs, they will bold on to your sub frame as the 1098 was a two seater as standard.
You'll have to knock the clutch push rod out of the pressure plate , to refit into new one , easy enough though .
I find the best way to keep the battery in good nick is regular riding. Even if you ride it every couple of weeks they still start fine and the batteries seem to last. I've never bothered with all that Optimate stuff. It is true that none of my Dukes had alarms draining the battery.
I really think an optimate is the best thing you can buy for your bike. They cost about the same as a new battery anyway and your bike is always ready to go, no matter how long it's sat.
Get a hold of the maintenance manual for the 1098, somebody here will have the link. That shows you how to remove the fairing sides and belly pan. Don't take off just the side its more trouble than its worth Yes just remove Negative then Positive with ignition off. Add your connections and have it poking through the gap just to the rear of the battery then put it all back. You may need to reset the time on the clock Fairing removed and you can see the open black rubber plug for connection to a trickle charger, in this case an Ctek Hope that helps John
Oh as Phil said be careful if using Li Ion/Fe, they are completely different animals. If going Li then you may or may not need a different charger, depending on the battery type and the manufacturer. John
You can get a lithium Optimate Phil. Although they are double the price. Super B Optimate Lithium Battery Charger - Demon Tweeks
