So, this has a claimed top speed of 124 mph that I can live with. But apart from the price, it has a claimed range of 82 miles @ 70 mph - so that may be 60 miles in reality - and then if you can't get on a fast charger, a 2 hour recharge to get to 95% charged. Or, I buy the Ducati Supersport S for about 12k. Top speed about 140mph (I guess) and a 160ish mile range with a 10 minute fill up if I wanna go further. That means that I couldn't do Birmingham and back without a charge and I could do Castle Combe and back but couldn't do a track day without a recharge (providing Castle Combe have charging points). I wanna help but things are just not practical at the moment!
Friend of mine had a test ride on one last year. He rated it from a performance and handling perspective but not from the longevity of the charge. Things will improve in time I'm sure
I could learn to live with the Energica Streetfighter. https://www.energicamotor.com/energica-eva-electric-streetfighter/
They have an ‘Adventure’ bike with the same range!!!! https://www.englishelectricmotorco.com/zero-dsr-14-4-black-forest/
A member from here tried the new Harley a week ago, was very impressed. Fast and refined were the two keywords, unusual separate indicators switched with the left on the left handlebar and the right on the right.
But what about noise? I just can’t get excited about electric vehicles, I know it’s coming (I don’t want it too, it’s all propaganda anyway) you’re just going to hear a wizzing sound, like milk floats when I was a kid. It’ll be the end of my riding, driving enjoyment.
Top speed, acceleration, looks, noise, range, meh. IT WEIGHS TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO KILOGRAMS. You may as well take a Goldwing to Castle Combe.
If it's anything like the Harleys in the hated "Long Way Up", the weight is carried very low making them quite manageable (as long as you don't drop it!). You have to open your mind and step away from much of the conscious bias that you get here - as I did from my fake water heater that produces fake hot water and provides fake electricity bills that bear no relation to the meter readings that I supply from a fake electricity meter. What is so great about noise? One good effect of the pandemic for me has been the lack of flying and cars - not so much motorbikes but the tiny engined Fiestas (and the like) with their bucket exhausts bellowing off walls and houses as they proceed along nearby roads slower than some of the hardcore cyclists we get here. I prefer being able to listen to the birds in the morning and wind rustling through trees, rather than loud cars and bikes miles away. I think that the sooner people get that it's 2020 and not 1980, the better!
We all have an opinion and we won’t all agree. For me the sound of a Ducati is part of the appeal. I have a classic V8 car of which the sound is a big part of the appeal. I’m seriously not interested in electric vehicle, the cons out way the pros. An electric vehicle will be thrown away after 10 years due to battery charge cycle. That’s my opinion, which of course you can disagree with as is your right.
The manufacturer would have to guarantee the model of motorcycle is futureproofed before i parted with any cash. As lighter, more powerful and faster charging cells become available it should be a hassle free compatibility.
For me, electiric bikes, no thanks, end of, but i do confess I will probably be dead in 10 years so why shouldI care.
Like Ducatis are guaranteed future proof now. And just like the Triumph Stag was when petrol was 10p a gallon. Can I suggest that we change the name of the forum? We drop "Ducati" and replace it with "Dinosaur"?
It'll get better once graphene power cells become mainstream, more power, more range and less weight. Then eventually the price point will be less than current ICE.
@PerryL , gonna say dude, be careful, that chip you have placed upon yer shoulder, will become a monkey on yer back!
It's not me with the chip. I'm open to new ideas and just not the same ol' same ol'. I did watch "Long Way Up" this morning and didn't curse that they didn't shot in in black and white. Pah, the luvvies were using this new fangled technology that will never catch on! And they shouldn't of tried it with rubbish electric bikes when a perfectly good 8mpg Triumph Stag would of sufficed!
For the road, people will pay their money and make their choice. However, “Ye cannae change the laws of physics” and carrying an additional 100kg (maybe 50% of the bike plus rider extra cw today) more mass on a racetrack where that mass needs to be accelerated, braked and turned rapidly and repeatedly means it will feel like a bus not a bike wherever the weight is carried. When the right technological efficiency and energy density is commercially viable (superconductors and graphene) then it will be a viable alternative from a dynamic performance perspective.
So until graphene power is commercially available for peanuts, we should keep burning petrol. Oh yer, got it now.
