Zip Replaced ~ Leathers Cleaning / Adjustment

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by AirCon, May 10, 2016.

  1. Just a quick question.

I've got various small adjustments (ok ..widening), zip replacement and cleaning/feeding of my leathers.

Any idea where I can get this done...recommendations please.

I'm based in West London by Heathrow, but don't mind sending stuff off or traveling to get stuff done right.

  2. AirCon,
I've used "nine lives" to do some alterations on my Dainese stuff in the past. Very good. Recommended. Got a small workshop above a carpet / flooring place in North Camp, Farnborough, a couple of hundred metres from Infinity at Farnborough. Their address is 13B Morris Rd, North Camp, Farnborough. GU14 6HJ. Tel 01252 523232. 30 or 40 min journey from Heathrow.

Been about 4yrs since I used them, so hope they still there. They were one of the very few people to be authorised by Dainese to do alterations on their behalf etc. Nick

  3. I've used Hill4Leather in Ash near Aldeshot to repair my Daytona boots and 9 Lives Leathers just down the road from Infinity in Farnborough seem to have a good reputation. Andy

  4. I've had various stuff done by Mojo Leathers in Canterbury (fortunately only a couple of miles from my house). New front zip and joining zip in Spyke two piece leathers and he recently replaced the cuff tightening things on my Halvarssons textile jacket that are a crap design made of perforated rubber material that breaks. He made new ones from Lorica. Honestly first class workmanship and as Eric would say to Ernie "you can't see the join".
I have a card at home with his telephone number, I'll look it out tonight and post it.
Turnaround has been quick too but I had stuff done out of the racing season when I know he does a lot of racing work.

  5. Hiya mate,
Im from london myself and a few weeks ago went to a few local tailors for a zip replacement on my furyagan leather jacket but know one would change it as it was a 'specialist' job. I enquired to several companies online that i found and most of them were around the £50 mark. One company was quoted me £30 including return postage which i thought was to good to be true...but i took a gamble and it came back a week ago and it was spot on, he even sorted the holes in my pockets free of charge! I cant remember what company it was but i did save his numer which is 07852 972913

  7. Hideout near Saffron Waldon. There is also Unique Leathers in Hull but that will be a bit far North for you. He is very good and surprisingly cheap

  8. I can recommend Cobra Leathers in Swindon link here Cobra Leathers , replacement jacket zip and add an inside pocket to my 2 piece was £50, they do all sorts of leather clothing repairs and adjustments for bike and general leather clothing. Also do work including seats, bags, boots, saddlery. Pictures here

I forgot to say, as well as the work he has done for me he extended the arms and legs of a pair of Alpinestars leathers for my mate who is 6 ft 6 inches tall.

They've put all-round zips in my two piece, narrowed the wrists in my jacket and repaired my race leathers at various times.

  11. Narrowed the waist... now you're just bragging and I frankly don't believe your lies.

I'll be jumping on this to get my 2 piece joining zip lengthened. It stops just forward of my sides (think 10 & 2 O'Clock) but not sure that counts as a full zip for track days.

  12. hehe! narrowed the wrists not the waist (the only advantage of being a fat kid and being less bad as I get older is that that I am finally growing into my waistline...). Bought a Frank Thomas Jacket years ago with wrist zips that just didn't do up tight enough (insert thick-wrist jokes about FT's regular customers here), so John took a small wedge out and refitted the zip.

He's also repaired some gloves for me and refurbished my non-bike leather jacket.

  13. scrubbers leather do a good job or cleaning and feeding, they have ppl they recommend for repairs
you can clean and feed them yourself pretty easily,
buy a of big Gliptone cleaner an Liquid leather bottle and they last years

if you want to stay local London, for little repairs and adjustments i go to a City Bags in holloway rd N7, its a motobike accessories shop at front, leather shop at back opposite odean cinema @ Nags head.
i got 2 new zips in jackets, all the velcro re-done on 7 pairs of gloves and the pocket of my textile jacket plus a pair of a pair of shorts for good measure. cost £25 for the lot!
they probably could do bigger bespoke stuff

for bigger stuff go to Stan Leathers 188A Hackney Road E8?.
