Zx9r owner thinking about an 848

  1. I really like the looks of the 848/1098, always liked the single sided swingarm bikes and these are just beautiful. Fed up with spending not much on imperfect vehicles and want something I can be proud of, that hasn't been bodged up and is as clean as possible. Wondering if a 848 evo will be enough for me? The 9 has 140 brake too and the acceleration rush just doesn't cut it any more for me so I was wanting something with a bit more grunt. I've really only ridden my nine so I have no idea what other bikes feel like or what to expect but the nine is a lot of fun although too easy to ride. Still don't know what to do

Ideally I want the black stealth evo with as little miles as possible, that has been looked after and already has the mods I want. Ie full exhaust system etc something like this 2010 DUCATI 848 STUNNING UNMARKED MATT BLACK IMMACULATE IN NEW CONDITION 1098 | eBay

I still need to sort figures out and things, I'm not exactly the richest of fellows so was planning on saving for a few more months then hope when the weather gets colder they start going down in price but I'm very impatient.

  2. I think every biker should own a Ducati at some point :)
Go on you know you want too are you sure you don't want a nice red one
Hello and welcome to the forum

  3. Hello and welcome! Get a test ride from your local dealer, then you'll find out just how much fun a Duke is, and give you more motivation to get one!

  4. Get an 1198 and feel some proper torque.

  5. I'd get a 1198 if I could afford it, still waiting to hear back about a loan to consolidate another loan and that will leave me 6 thousand spare. After selling bits and saving for a few months hoping to raise another £1500 so my budget is going to be around £7500, think I'd rather get a 1098 but it's all about price.

  6. I like the stealth ones too (much better than red ;) But have you ridden an 848 yet? I tested an R1 and it didn't really compare for involvement - too easy to ride fast and the urge just doesn't feel as satisfying as on a twin. I can tell you the 848 torque is awsome - finger tip control! 1198, even more so. I didn't feel my 848 is a lesser bike compared to either the 1998 or R1.

  7. There's a dealer in Carlisle selling a 2012 848 with 150 miles on it, too expensive for me but I'm gonna try and blag a test ride to see how I like it. I was looking on MCN and they reckon the 848 has a mpg of 27 but the 1098 as a mpg of 40?

  8. I'd highly recommend it. I've always had IL4's up until now but can't see me going back to one now after getting a taste for the 848 and v-twin.

  9. Mpg about the same. 70-100 miles before reserve depending on pace.

  10. Hello and welcome. In the 'real world' the 848 is all the bike you'll ever need, but the 1198 and the 1098 are great great bikes

  11. AndyB will be along shortly

  12. Went and had a look at them in the flesh today, all things being equal I'd take the 1098 for a bit of bragging rights even if it's not any quicker then the 848 but we will see what happens.

  13. You must do it. I have made a very similar change, I changed my ZX 6R, So nearly a ZX9R , for the 848 Dark (not Evo) and I love it. The torque is awesome, the scream from an in line 4, is a something that will soon offend your ears. Handling is out of this world, I believe the Evo is better . The only down side is fuel consumption/ tank range, but I can live with ( I am too financially challenged). I test rode the 1098 and the 848, I personally found the 848 must more friendly and not as harsh. I will never change back to a Jap in line 4 now. You only live once and riding / owing a Duke is one of lifes musts. Bet you will never regret. M & S Newcastle are excellent.

  14. Welcome to the forum, I made the change from Japanese IL4's to Ducati about six years ago and haven't looked back since (nor has my dealer considering the amount of money I've spent). Be careful, Ducati motorcycles are totally addictive !

  15. Well I got my loan, once my other loan is paid off I'll have six grand left over. Got a few things to sell and a zxr400 that needs some tlc then sold so it will be a few months before I can look at bikes. Will be keeping the niner for normal all type weather riding and the duke for nice days. I'll be keeping an eye open incase the right bike comes up tho.

  16. I got an 848 Evo a couple of months ago. Alway had Jap il4's before (both 600 & 1000) I can honestly say the 848 has been the best bike so far, although I'm dreading it if anything goes wrong... Go for it... Just getting the dropped jaw from people when you ride by is worth it!

  17. You should get an early 848 easy for that money
