748 New Owner, My Own Small Project

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by iSaruns, Oct 6, 2016.

  1. Hello there,
I came here to search some help. I apologise if I won't make sense, this is my first bike and I would like you guys to help me a bit. If possible.
Fixing the bike I came around a few parts I needed and its hard to find them cause I have no experience in dealing with bikes.
Furthermore, it makes more complicated that I am a foreigner and some parts names are a mystery to me. It's hard to find them to buy.
Guys, can u help me out ?
I live in London Ashford , could you help me and give some advice where to buy parts?
The bike i own is 1999 year 748 Ducati. Can someone recommend me a good shop that i can contact in UK ?

  2. Hey, best of luck.
New bits call Moto Rapido in Winchester. Sometimes new can be cheaper than used on eBay (indicators for example).

  4. No idea but welcome anyway Dave. And why don't you introduce yourself properly in the newbies section :)

  5. Welcome along and don't forget the pictures and maybe a list of parts your looking for as you might find them here.

  6. Sorry guys I wasn't trying to be rude, my social skills aren't the best. I am kind of closed ;( But I am looking forward to this forum chats/talks.

  7. I took some pictures maybe not clear too much but ill try to explain.
The first picture is that switch isn't working.
Secondary I had some advice that I need to change everything including the part in the picture. With the clutch.
    3rd is a basic lever.
    4th is some switch in the lever {[^-^]}

  8. 1st Rear brake light switch, 2nd full clutch assembly, 3rd clutch lever and 4th front brake micro switch to operate the rear brake light.
The threads on the clutch shaft look damaged in your picture, hope not!!
You will need a clutch hub with nut and washer to fix it on, full set of clutch plates, pressure plate with springs, spring caps and bolts, the clutch rod is also missing which runs through the center of that shaft to the slave cylinder at the other side of the engine.

  9. Hello, and welcome. I love those 748 series bikes. I bought my first one in 2002, a yellow 748s and still have it today.

As Birdie says, 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but the 4th picture looks like it's the front brake master cylinder. It's missing a lot

The bike certainly looks like a project bike. It looks like you'll have to strip the entire bike down and start from the ground up.

There are a number of internet and ebay based companies you can source information from. Ebay will be your fist stop when you can figure out the names of each part.

    Try these guys:

Gotham Cycles - The Ducati Parts Specialist
DUCATI PARTS ONLINE | New & Used Original Ducati Motorcycle Parts & Accessories
    OEMDucati.com
    DUCATI1 - CARBON-TRADER - CTMOTO®

Also, try Ducati dealers for parts too. They are not as expensive as you'd think and their parts guys have been in the industry for years.

Ducati Glasgow - Scotland's Ducati Store
Moto Rapido Ducati Dealer in Hampshire
    Louigi Moto // Ducati Specialists

Also, do download the parts and catalouge and workshops manuals from Ducati (as Mr. F suggested). These parts manuals are a great help not only with understanding the names and purpose of parts, but also show how they go together.

Best of luck with the build.

  10. Sorry guys I haven't been free for a while, a lot of my time is consumed by work. I am really grateful for the help I got here. It did help me a lot :) I managed to get past these stages and got the parts. It's almost finished the first stage :) after everything is done I'll have to strip it and give it some new life in colour
