996 996 Clutch Centre Nut

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Simon-Ducati, Jan 28, 2017.

  1. I'm struggling to loosen the clutch centre nut. I've used a clutch holding tool put an enormous long pole on the end of my ratchet and still won't budge. Any tips silly question but it's not a left hand thread is it?

  2. Either mains or battery impact driver. For all things Ducati clutch and rear hub nut related stuff I have a Dewalt 18v Li-Ion 1/2" drive beastie. Not been defeated yet (fingers crossed). Andy

  3. It's a right hand thread, 100% sure.
FYI: I had the same problem with the sprocket nut. Needed 2 guys and a 2m pole to loosen it, but we won :)

  4. Thanks for the help guys

  5. The spec is 186Nm, so it's going to take some loosening. I'm sure it's a normal RH thread.

  6. Normal thread.
As above, it can be fixed with the threadlock that will soften with heat, then use a rattle gun...:upyeah:

  8. Drastic measures!

  9. They should use a split pin then they wouldn't need to be so bloody tight

  10. I have had success with the following formula:

    1) Heat it up a bit
    2) Then hit it. Put an Impact socket on the nut, few little 'taps' to help break any bonding
    3) Big torque impact driver like the Dewalt 18V
