Nurburgring - Fastest Lap And An Interesting Article

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Nigel Machin, Apr 10, 2016.

  1. They will not sanction a record attempt on a closed track. As far as nurburgring heirarchy goes, Helmut Dahne still is the quickest. Despite that lap being on a rider training day. Andy has ridden with Dahne in the past on training days as they both instruct on them. Andy is still in awe of how the guy gets the rc30 around, yes andys got some power advantage but Dahne can still carry so much speed at sections where Andy feels the limit has been reached. Dahne did try and better his record on a Blade some years ago but couldn't get it done.
As regard an official go at it, some years ago Andy was granted an empty track for a serious attempt during a trackday lunch hour. He had one hour of empty dry perfect conditions, full ohlins and dunlop support, marshalls posted around the track, with the added blessing of a helicopter tracking him to alleviate concerns about safety in the sections that are thinly marshalled. The organisers on the day had the nod from the Nurburgring that sll was good to go. Then the heirarchy suddenly u-turned putting a very large price tag for it to go ahead, dunlop agreed to the fee, then Nurburgring upped the price again and threatened the trackday organiser that if it did happen they would never be welcome back.
Time moves on and the owner of the track is no longer the State, but the same day to day people run the place.

  3. Thanks, interesting.

    What does TF mean?

    (resisted asking 'TF, WTF?')

  4. tf. Is short for touristenfahrt. Tourist driving, it's the public sessions where you pay your money and out you go.
tf is not open everyday, many times people come to visit without checking the timetable to see if it will be open.
Also it's not unusual gor people to drive/ride to Nuremburg instead of Nurburg. Only another 500 miles round trip. Many bikers now spend more time on the GP track which is next to the Nordschleife ( the old long track). In fact the tf sessions held on the gp track are more akin to a sessioned trackday, except there are cars and bikes mixed on a full gp circuit.
Many bikers also opt to do the rider training days on the nordschleife as there are no bike trackdays held on it, it is tge closest you can get to a bike trackday on the legendary circuit.
