I've been on track with a bunch of the Tri-options boys and whilst they were nearly all faster/better riders than me on my 1199S that I had at the time, I could consistently make up the time on the brakes. An 899 with 1199 brakes would be a proper weapon I reckon.
1x99 Pani brakes are mega spec brembos, its one of the strong points of the bike and what your money is going into, the 899 ones are not as good. They are not lacking on the 899, they just are not £15-20k motorbike material. It also makes a difference that the 899 is heavier than the 1199. I think the 959 are possibly upgraded from the 899?
Bypass the abs, chuck on some m50 calipers off a 11/1299 and a pair of 330mm discs along with a mastercylinder to suite and some race pads and your breaking will be epic.
Anyone have/ridden a 899 and a Multi 1200? I'm wondering how they'd compare power wise? My current bitsa track bike as a 1200 multi engine. Obviously different engines/cams and so on, so the 899 should 'feel' faster/sportier. Cheers
Yes. Felt very similar tbh, in that you just simply rag it. But the 899 is so much lighter so it’s hard to really compare. The 899 doesn’t have the low end grunt, so you need more revs. If you have ridden a 848 it’s more like that
I've been keeping half an eye on used Tri Options 959's as I can't get past the draw of having a Ducati Track/race bike as a second bike Like said above, the brakes are not great, but pretty easy to sort out, and unless you swap the rods out, you have to factor in pretty regular engine rebuilds. Other than that, they're a great bike and a lot of fun
I did, but it was a full road bike, and it was a bit crap on the track to be honest However, recently, I had a go on a mates ex trioptions 959 and it was really good, so the seed was planted
I actually forgot about this thread I started when I bought the 899. I’ve had it over a year now and I love it. I bought it off the AOR race team like this: It was a bit rough but it was all cosmetic and had a great spec as previously mentioned. It had had a full engine build by Moto Rapido with Carrillo rods, Sigma slipper and kit generator 180 miles prior to me buying it. It was replacing my 4C8 R1 track bike that I just couldn’t get on with and tried to kill me every time I rode it, so the deal was to see how I got on with the 899 before I spent any money tarting it up. Cartagena would be the bench mark as that’s the track I ride most with my fasted time being 1:56 on the R1. First time out on the 899 I managed 1:55 there so I was chuffed to see a little improvement at least. A year later and I’m down to 1:51 on the 899 round Cartagena. So...it was time to tart her up a bit... New paint was first: The MV style isn’t everyone’s cuppa but I love it. I bought some carbon fibre - swingarm covers, shock cover, hugger and exhaust caps along with the HEL master cylinder and BSD blipper which is the best mod I’ve ever done on any bike. I had a new chain and sprockets fitted along with a fork service carried out. Got a carbon fiber exhaust cover waiting to be fitted when I get the chance as well. All in all I’m over the moon with it. I'm just back from 3 days out in Portimao with it and the bike ran brilliantly and scared a few of the bigger bikes too. Managed to run 2:03 in the fast group so I was happy with that and reckon if I'd stuck a new rear tyre on I could had a couple of seconds off that on the last day. Only thing left is to get some carbon wheels and then I think that’s it...unless a fancy dash comes up
