Apologies for the thread hijack, but an abba stand is mentioned above and I was looking into something to enable me to work on either front or back end of the bike (currently needing to replace front disks and clean up calipers while stripped). is the abba any good for this, as it looks a bit "flimsy" and mentions use of jacks for chocking the bike up, and would be nice to jus have the bike 'floating' to move around and work on as I needed. anybody any experience or suggestions for this type of stand? thanks, pete
The Abba stand is very good. Vids on their site show someone sitting on the bike on the stand and they have just added a new part that allows you to take both front and rear wheels off the ground at the same time. abba Superbike Stand Front Lift Arm - product details - Abba Stands, UK
Cheaper than a front and rear paddock stand combined. paid £137 brand new on fleabay from Germany. "Constand"

thanks Kickboxer, that is exactly what I was looking for, and the sort of price. Unfortunately, it seems they don't make that any more! tried eBay.de and the constands website. Two different scissor lifts that go under the frame, various front and rear paddock stands and a headstock lift front stand, but nothing like hat you have, above. the bursig is a bit out of my price bracket, so guess the £100 Abba will be the one to help me to keep tinkering. cheers, pete

like the idea of flat storage when not in use, can just see myself dropping the thing on the ramp up and killing my old man (who would most likely be helping me)!
I'm thinking I have loads of boxes full of std bits and track kit which could live inside while bike lives on stands on it. Best of bothworlds compared to a lift which either has stiff or a boke on it so need space elsewhere. Be down Wickes next week to give it a go!!

I have a Sealey stand which is long enough (2400mm?) and wide enough (800mm?) to use front and rear paddock stands, has a lift out section for the rear wheel, although I have never used this and easily lifts the bike ~(around 425kg limit). Makes life much easier, unless your short (like me) and your bike is tall (like my KTM) and you cant reach the bars !
Why does the floor need to lift out to remove wheels? You can't lift the garage floor out when you remove the wheels when the bike is on the floor.
That is what I am looking for, being able to remove either wheel (not both simultaneously, that would be too complicated!) to do brakes, chain, etc, all at a fair price. Abba looks ok for the price, but want to get front off, too. may end up just using rear paddock stand and old bottle jack for now (maybe a few chunks of wood as catchers should things go a little unstable).
FE looking at mine I think it is so with the wheel out and the lift high, you can 'get in there' where the shock etc is. Guess ifyou're building exhaust systems, messing with the rear of the engine or just a good deep clean its useful.
Front & rear stands are enough for that. The lift is great if you do a lot of tinkering or are building somethng and super handy for cleaning, but a luxury of thats all itsfor
The stand kickboxer has is a bursig type. They aint cheap and he got a bargain Motorradteile Bursig Webshop or there is this MotoMfg.com paddock stand - YouTube a US product. Cheap again. A set of half decent padock stands can be had on fleabay for 50quid, that all you need for taking wheels on and off.
a bit primative i know,but i used a Ratchet Straps | Tie Down Straps | Motorcycle Tie Downs | E Track Ratchet Straps | Tent Straps | Winch Straps | Tow Straps | RatchetStraps.com going through a loop on the roof to hoist the front/back end off the floor,and it was only about 6 quid. this was aimed at efcbluepete.
I think this is one of the most useful threads here - thanks to everyone who has contributed. The kit on the site posted by Gregory is excellent and available here (probike.co.uk), not just from Aus.
