1299 1299 Track Build

Used them this weekend. Great tyre equally as good as Dunlop KR maybe better on the wear.

 

is it a 1199 light unit rather than the 1299 version?
also there is a small plastic IMU( that part in your hand) holder that should use 2 8mm bolts on the sides and a single plastic pin that pushes into the light unit rubber grommet.

 

My local dealer is struggling to identify the precise parts need for the highlight blank on my MY2012 base model 1199. I understand that there is no need for dummy light plugs etc on this model because they aren't LED - is this correct? Also, sounds like I will need a bracket for the IMU referred to above. Anything else?

I think the part number has been updated but your dealer should be able to track it down from the pic

 

I don’t recall fitting dummy plugs & there are no warning lights or error codes. I also don’t recall an IMU bracket. Might be wrong, don’t think the 1199 has an IMU, it’s not that smart. Think the IMU came with later models?

They’re quite sensitive to pressures though, so you almost need to ignore the Bridgestone recommended values
I race on them, and know many others that do too, and they work best with a softer than recommended rear and a harder than recommended front
FWIW, I’d run circa 20rear and 35fr measured at 80deg hot on a typical British summers day, but you’d need to set them how they feel right for you

 

Thanks Graeme. I started with the recommended 33F and 25R but it was cool and windy on the first 2 days and I couldn't keep heat in the front so I went up to 35F.
The last day was a lot warmer and the grip was so much better just like KR's.
What compounds do you run? I think I had soft front medium rear but will need to check.

 

I use a medium front as the carcass is a little stiffer and it doesn’t roll so much, but that’s a personal preference
I’ll use a rear soft when it’s warmer and a medium when it’s cooler

It's had it's up's and downs, but been a lot of fun, and I've certainly learnt a few things last year - Many times the hard way
Have you still got a bike, be good to catch up this year if you're riding again
I'm working as an instructor at Silverstone this year for their own days if you're heading up there at all

 

Yes falling off hurts. Still got the bikes but haven't booked anything yet for this year as its a bit manic. I'll have to book a Silverstone day but it sounds like I might have trouble keeping up now.....

I'm at Donington a couple of times this year. First end of May for NLR Club1000's and then we're back as a team late July for the 8hr Endurance race.
I've just loaded up now ready to head up there tomorrow for a bit of probably very wet set up as just had a full new Ktech suspension set fitted to my bike

 

So these are wet weather tyres then?
