959 959 With 1299 Exhaust

  1. I'm fairly sure you need a full 1299 system, lower panels, filter and remap. Easily done and won't cost much more than the twin akra pipes, which IMO are priced quite high because of limited options.

  2. so you could keep the 959 headers up to the T piece where the 2 termi cans bolt to? Thats handy

Would the termi cans be more restrictive than OEM 959 ones though as they're a smaller diameter or are the termi exhausts bigger than standard 899?

    cheers

  3. Hmm...no, I don't think so. I don't think the parts within the system are interchangeable. Basically you need the complete system to make it work.

  4. Only done about 150 mile so far however, in that limited time, it's a very easy bike to ride, tiddlin through town is wee buns, no riding the clutch etc. Fairly sure it will be quick over 5 or 6K when it will start moving.
I still say don't buy one if you can't get over the cans. That's just my opinion.

  5. With sales like they seem to be, I can't imagine it'll be long before Ducati are giving the bike with the Akra option for free
If a second hand 899/1299 system will fit as easily as it appears, then you could probably sell the 959 Akra's for not far off the price of the 899/1299 system. Happy days
Either that, or hang on until the non EU markets start getting aftermarket set ups and order them online

  6. Personally I love the look of the 959 without the 'Shotgun' effect. In my opinion Ducati made a knee jerk reaction to the Euro 4 ruling, did a great job in improving the engine but seems to have forgotten about the cans. I managed to source the full 1299 system for £175 and the lower fairings for £180 + fitting £180 total £535. Anyway here's my 959....

  7. Most dealers are struggling for stock the 959 has been more popular than expected and deals aren't being done.

I got £600 off the price off mine and after ringing round the best I could get anywhere else was £300 off. I don't think the exhaust had put people off really as it's got such good reviews in the press.

£535 for that conversion is really good - you did well there. I will keep my eye out for some fairings if they're cheap enough it opens up more options when I come to change the exhaust.

  8. Does it sound better with 1299 exhaust fitted

  9. Don’t use an 899 exhaust as it has smaller diameter pipes.

  10. It’s very similar I sound to the 899 and 1299 but without the exhaust valve it’s open all the time so plenty loud enough for me. Riding recently an ear plug fell out and it was horrendous but I still love the bike after 10k.
