Ducati 848 No Start

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by HardKnockLife, Jul 17, 2018.

  1. Incase this helps(idk‍♀️) I got my bike to jump off a push start. She idled and sounded great until I shit her off and she wouldn’t start manually. I will try the jump start you all are talking about!

  2. Hard knock, if you don't have a spare battery lead you can bridge the two heavy duty connectors of the solenoid with one of these Fork-Fork-Carving2[1].jpg it takes two seconds. However 12.5v on my batteries (across the terminals under no load) indicates time for a new one (or the meter needs a new battery)

  3. Have to say, this could well be just a weak battery.
The battery was changed but was it changed for a new one?

  4. Yes how ever.. I was gone for a month and had a buddy pick it up and said they charged it correctly. Would a battery lose power in a month that quick? It shows full when I check it with a multimeter.

  5. Sorry, I could have sworn you said you had changed battery in post one?! It’s the battery, change that and then see how it goes. If still no start, mess about with stuff as above.

  6. I’m glad I’m not going entirely insane :no_mouth:

  7. I did change my battery, I found the first one was dead and the one I currently have is about 1-2 months old now. I will try a new battery:( I just can’t believe the battery would be dead?! It seems so odd but I will try another..

  8. whether Freudian or otherwise, I think your above post is gramatically spot-on, I hope you get to the bottom of the problem soon. :upyeah:

  9. In which case I’d have the battery tested rather than spend on another. Then work thru the ideas on here :upyeah:

  10. My mates Aprillia battery wouldn't hold charge. He got garage to test battery and they said fine. Was just about to pull trigger on garage going to work on the charging system when he finally listened to me and bought a new battery anyway. Bikes not missed a beat since......

It's amazing how often it's the battery.

  11. i have been riding my 848 since 2012 as a daily hack I have found replacing the three relays beside the battery at every service has cured most issues.
To relate to your problem, mine failed on the fuel relay. if the ecu does not get a signal for fuel it will refuse to start. My idiot dealer replaced it with an old one from his toolbox told me it was not charging and that i needed a new regulator and generator. I took it home and worked out the starter was permanently engaged (it does sit inside the sump) the following cured it.
The relays are 3.50 each when you pull them they will probably be heavily corroded. clean the contacts up before fitting. I use conductive gel on all my contacts and smother everything else with a waterproof grease. Not pretty but it works. I used to buy the gel from maplins just look at computer suppliers on line. Hope it works RC
