In normal times, to say we are being flooded by unskilled migrants to a point that wages are being pushed down so let's have a controlled migration system that allows in skilled migrants for positions where our shortfalls are. In current times, some seek to call you a racist or far right for such a thought.
I used to live in a town on the Norfolk/Cambridegshire border. Most of the work was and remains, farmland and factory. Most of the work is done not direct but through gangmasters and agencies. Many of those gangmasters and agencies also have transport and properties. Those same gangmasters and agencies did/still do, refuse to take English people of any colour. The reason being is that they get the most desperate of unskilled migrants, place 10 or 12 into a 3 bed house and charge them all rent, they also charge them for transport to and from work, some will have paid those agencies/gangmasters to be brought over here to so an additional amount is taken from their wages as well for that "re-location to work cost" Often what their start wage is on their pay slip after legal deductions, is not what they end up with after the very tilted way they are employed and often are payed less than half the genuine legal wage. Those agencies/gangmasters in black and white pay the legal minimum wage, until the stoppages kick in in their favour. Because those who are the most desperate to come here will work for a wage even at a non legal uk wage, that is still more than their own countries average wage so yes, low wages are driving wages down as are people willing to work for peanuts

If we have as expected, a seasonal worker permit scheme. This would hold employers to a far higher standard and a loss of a licence in the same way a publican or transport manager holds an individual licence to then employ others. Remove the farmers/agencies/gangmaster's seasonal workers permit, you stop it at source. Sadly many sleeping 5 and 6 to a room are not the type that look at legislative bodies, even more so those who are repaying a local gangmaster say in Romania who they owe money too.
