    Sure this is all old news now but just put my VIN number into Ducati and this popped up, so just thought I’d share ☺️
     
  2. Yes, both have already been discussed as they were highlighted by our American cousins who learned about it first. Having talked it through with my workshop manager, the work on my V4 will be done in conjunction with my 600 mile service round about March. I have no concerns that the issues associated with these two recalls will affect my bike as it is still being run in. Andy

It would seem from the articles I have read, the recalls have been triggered by failure in a very small number of bikes where in the case of the oil cooler issue, the bikes have been routinely tracked and the hydraulic cam chain tensioner issue has been seen after thousands of miles. Disappointing but I’m being philosophical about it and quietly pleased with myself that I found some money to extend the warranty to 4 years. Andy

  6. I on the other hand was skint after my purchase and stupidly stuck to the standard warranty, oh well time will tell lol

    I did see however some pics somewhere of a guys V4 and the rear tyre was covered in oil which was rather worrying to say the least
     
  7. Chillo has not been blessed with trouble free V4 ownership. 2 oil cooler failures and 2 water pump seals :( Andy

  9. The amount of recalls really is unacceptable and in some instances dangerous it appears Ducati have rushed it into production without proper development to satisfy the needs of WSB & BSB
    I hope they get the engine fully sorted before they put it in the Multistrada
     
  10. In all honesty, I think Ducati have reacted fairly quickly to all known cases of failures or symptoms that have thus far come to light. I am not sure if the front sprocket oil seal was amongst them but many of these issues are resolved on the production line as the factory becomes aware of them, so chances are anything coming out the front gates now, will have already had these shortcomings fixed. The oil cooler recall is doubtless going to cost them a lot of money as there are well over 1600 bikes affected in the US/Canada alone, not to mention the lost revenue in labour time. As far as I can see, the chain tensioner bolts are relatively easy to access, so if all they are required to do is check torque them, it should be a fairly quick job (the time is takes to remove the side fairings, check the bolts and refit the the bodywork). One bolt is behind the ABS unit on the front cylinder head, the other is next to the thermostat housing on the rear cylinder head. Here's an image of the rear tensioner bolt.

  11. Shouldn't these faults have been found through the R&D process fluids over the rear tyre is a major concern due to to the potential for serious and life treatenithgly injuries
    Don't think these faults would come out of a Japanese factory
     
  12. If you are talking about the tensioning bolts, I'm not sure R&D would predict a component potentially working loose, if indeed that is the problem with this bolt. Most likely is that there has been an issue at the assembly stage (as opposed to an inherent design flaw) where an incorrect torque value has been used, so this smacks of a preventative "belt and braces" approach, so any that slipped through the net can be checked, as I am certain they will have corrected/checked this on the assembly line now. As far as the oil cooler is concerned, it's rubber mounted but any flex puts a degree of strain on the unions/bosses where the delivery and return pipes attach. The bosses are angled on the oil cooler itself but clearly given enough movement of the oil cooler under normal use, these can crack. The new design has a plate around the base of each boss, to strengthen it and cope with any stress placed on it.

    I'm a Ducati fan of many years currently have 6 but I do feel Ducati expect paying customers to carry out there testing
    I hope the V4 is sorted before they put it in the Multistrada
     
  14. Quite possibly but it is at least being addressed.
     
  15. Yamaha R1M gearboxes were replaced I believe due to sub standard parts. So it's not just European manufacturers that find problems.
     
  16. Ducati's research and developement seems to be like the councils road pot holes. It's cheaper to repair the customers that complain rather than send out bikes 100% bang on from day one.

  17. Had formal notification of CR167/169 Safety Recall Campaign for the oil cooler swap and cam chain tensioner torque in the post today. Andy

    Bit late though as I don’t have mine anymore now because of it all!
