1000 Ducati Multistrada 1000ds Starting Issues

  1. Thanks, I'll give it a go and check the gap as well, if it is the sensor where can I get a replacement? Will eurocarparts be able to match it. Will the monster 6 have the same pickup? There is one on eBay but not specifically for the Multistrada. Would be easier to get it locally. Someone mentioned fiat use the same one. Any ideas?

  2. @Derek was able to pont me to one for my 999...

  4. Very informative, thanks Chris.

  5. Believe me when I say I wish it was that simple. I've bought a bike I've never ridden. I hope it's with the hassle.

  6. Hope you get it sorted soon :upyeah:

  7. Hi, I'm going to try the CPS with the multimeter today as the bike is still not starting. If it's an ECU issue I've been reading your the man to come to?

  8. i would try if it bump start first. you could jack it up at the rear, remove the plugs, slip it into gear and spin the rear wheel by hand, if it sparks, you need a new starter.

  9. Yeah that's one to think about, I've removed the CPS and it's faulty. I'm not getting a reading so I'm picking one up this afternoon. I'm hoping this will cure it. There's a 8-9ohm reading across the battery terminals so I'm hoping the ECU is ok. The battery has been removed so that's not interfering with the reading. Only time will tell, fingers crossed for this afternoon.

  10. Ok, so success! It was the CPS, not only that as soon as I started it all the error codes disappeared. I also realised it's got new clocks considering the mileage is 304. Really looking forward now to taking it for a spin. Question .. i need to respray the engine once I've cleaned it up, does anyone know the paint code? Also can i use 10w/40 semi or does it have to be fully synthetic? Many thanks for all your help.

  13. great news. enjoy the riding on it

  14. Motul 7100 fully synth for road use.
Motul 300v fully synth racing oil for track
However, as it’s a great oil and I can use my Halfords card to get it cheap, I have fully synth Mobil 1 in my 999

  15. I used fully synth for road use for the fugly, glad you got it sorted

  16. Hi have it started but now a new problem. It's breaking down on one cylinder I think. If I hold the revs at 4k it will stay temporarily then drop, i compensated by increasing the throttle but it started at 4k then dropped to idle. Is this a sign the valves need doing or is it fuel contamination going through the injectors (water) I've put some redex in with 5l of fuel, do you reckon it just needs a good ride or has anyone else had this issue. Can't ride it under load, it won't pull away. We'll, it does for a bit then gives up. Any suggestions?

  17. Bear in mind the bike has been stood for an age. I'm servicing it tomorrow, new oil and filter. I don't want to get excited on the throttle (or try) with old oil. Oh and by the way the plugs are new so I don't think it's them unless I've been sold some dogy plugs. I did a service on a cb600f and had an issue with one of the new plugs. Again the bike want firing properly.

  18. One thing I forgot to check, the HT leads, i bet I've done something silly like not put the long HT leads in properly. They are in but might not be snapped on. That'll cause an intermittence. It's been a long day so lets see what's what tomorrow when I've had my morning coffee and I'm fresh faced.
