916 Newbie Looking For A 916 Advice

  1. It's the one at bury. Are the brakes wrong?

  2. The sps/sp should have different front discs. Check online pics of them and you will see the difference.

Maybe it’s just the pessimist in me, but why would a 4K like bike have none original rotors fitted?

Or as I said I’m no 748sps expert and things changed year to year so someone will probably say that’s fine for the year.. but certainly 96 and 98 on had different rotors cast iron so why not this one..

  3. There getting on a bit now so could have warped disc , my 996 has one so changing them for hpk brembos, but il keep the old ones in case I ever sell it.

  4. Yeah I agree. Why change the brakes. So this could be a sps replica.

  5. I believe that the SPS does not have “DOHC 4V” cast onto the cam cover.
Not sure if that applies to 748 as well as 916/996.

  6. I’d be asking Ducati UK what they have on the bike from the frame
    Number.

  7. Cheers . Some good advice there . I'll go and look to see.

  8. The 748 SPS does have DOHC 4V cast in the Head.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  9. Be careful using this to identify an SPS though as the standard bikes also have this in the head..

  10. Proceed with caution! and check the log book/service/mot's/accident damage etc, etc:upyeah:Good luck.

  11. One other thing, when did the forks bottoms change for the different callipers?

Just looking at an SPS now and the calliper bolt spacing is a different type..

  12. Yeah well spotted. Looks like it a a had a new front end maybe . That's if it's a sps. Fastline in Preston have one which I've seen. Looks proper but it's a Japanese import which put me off.

  13. I’m not saying it’s not an SPS I think the only way of really finding out is via Ducati UK or Bologna. Problem with these old Ducati’s is so many people think something is something it isn’t. Unsuspecting buyers can be very easily caught out if homework isn’t done first

  14. Being an import wouldn't put me off either. If it's a tidy bike it's worth buying.

  15. Don’t start me on this :joy::joy::grinning:

  16. Yeah that's why I'm being carefull. Don't want ripping off and I'm looking for a keeper. Something I can use and be an investment too. I'm getting impatient though as the sun is shining.

  17. Discs are def not correct, gear lever and rear brake pedal are a/market, screen of course. It should also have the standard silencers with it and In the perfect world a stand and cover, in reality the stand will have gone missing and the cover will have fallen apart years ago. Only way to be totally sure is send details to factory who will confirm exactly what it was built as.
Like Cookster said if it's tidy then buy it but make sure you know what you're buying and pay the appropriate price.

  18. Would still like to know why not original front end. I'll take a look and check the numbers out.

  19. The discs appear to be standard steel discs from the late nineties, I have them on my 1998 reg 916, on SPS they should be sat iron fully floating. I"ll try and sort pics of both types.

First is a '99 SPS (I've got conf from the factory) and second is a'98 916. You can also see the difference in the calipers mounts. If the front end is wrong then either it's been crashed and replaced or it's not a genuine SPS?
