888 / St4 Hybrid Project

  1. Great! Do you know i the 600/750/900 huggers are all the same?

  2. Yes, it looks like the alloy swingarm for 1995 to 1999 M900 Monster.

The ‘93 and ‘94 model year M900 Monsters had the tab fixings and 888 hugger.

The M600, M750, M900Dark and some M900 (After the S was launched?) had steel swing arms.

  3. I don’t think the huggers for ally and steel swingarms are the same.

The shape of the top of the swingarm differs between the wheel and shock, so the huggers vary to match that.

  4. A bit of work on the header and swing arm and we now have clearance to fit the two.

The header needed a little squashing and the swing arm needed a little filing but now on full extension (past the max shock extension) they just touch so I am happy with that

  5. Next job... chain alignment, I 'think' I can make the standard gearbox sprocket work with just some minor spacing

The correct swingarm to suspension hoop bolts are on their way so, will get that space back for the chain once they are fitted..

  6. If necessary, looks like I could flip the gearbox sprocket for more clearance too

  7. Does anyone have a recommendation for gearing on the ST4S ? The standard 15/38 seems high?

I’ll probably also convert to 520 pitch

  8. The S4 standard was 15/37. It is popular to put a bigger sprocket on the back though.

  9. I think the ST4S runs a different final drive ratio as people seem to be talking about running 15/43 as an ideal setup

  10. 15/43 is standard set up for ST4 and was considered the only correct set up from the factory for the ST range, ST4S has the 996 motor and probably different final drive so more grunt - so anything up to 43 should be an improvement.

  13. I’m going to fit a 525 chain and sprocket to my 900ss/St4 as the 520 seems to need a lot of adjusting.

  14. Any recommendations for the battery size on this beast ?

I don't plan on running any lights so wanted to use the smallest possible really and probably go Lithium, Ive used a Shido LT7B-BS on the race bike for 2 seasons now and its still going strong

  15. Starter motor will be the biggest load so unlikely to reduce your battery size from removal of lights?

  16. Mmmm - this exhaust is just not happening... thought I had it done but fitting the front header makes it foul the swing arm really badly. Was hoping to avoid having a custom system made but maybe thats not possible?
