  1. Thanks guys

  2. One of the 'improvements' on the 1260 is a longer swing-arm to improve stability, ergo a longer chain.

  3. Dar, My post was also indicated speed, not satnav speed, but You have me questioning this now.

On my 996 and 998 6k in top was an indicated 110mph. It became 100mph after dropping a tooth on the front.

I may be imagining my mts is also 100mph, it could well be 110, I don't use 6th very often these days :yum:blush:
The pre dvt, dvt, and 1260 All share the same primary and gearbox ratios. Even the enduro has the same 6th gear ratio.

  4. I'm questioning my own observations as they don't coincide with Gearing Commander even when using 15/42 and adjusting for the speedo error. Would be a lot simpler if the Ducati speedometer was accurate.
Maybe it's off by more than 5%

The bike will never do 165 (or whatever it is standard) as aerodynamics come in to play and GC doesn't account for that AFAIK. but its a great guide for how much it changes in gears at revs, so you can see what is lost potentially top end but (probably more importably) what revs at 60/70/80 etc. Especially if you change gearing and it throws your touring speed in to a flapper flat spot!!

Also note it calls out primary gearing, so you can check across models
I used to be on this all the time when I raced and did trackdays :upyeah:

  6. We're talking about 160Kph not Miles per hour.
Gearing Commander was set in Kph.
Don't confuse us more than we already are, ;)

  7. Yeah I was looking at mph, I can see yours is kmh in the picture.

Point still stands: it’s a great resource but with top end you have to apply some thought to aero.

  8. Dar, I *think* the over-read is closer to 7% when compared to my satnav.

Bradders are you sure it won't do 165 (indicated or actual ;) )

  9. Pretty sure ;)

On some bikes changing gearing affects sensors and makes the bike over/under read. 99.99% sure that’s not the Multi. My gixer 750 reads 135 flat out, in top. When I know the guy next to me was showing 155 plus. That’s becaue it hasn’t got a speedo healer.

  10. Following the gearing change, I used the tire / final drive calibration feature in the Multi's menu but it still doesn't calibrate to true speed. I'm getting irritated in this day and age where the speedometer is inaccurate and does not match the GPS. BTW, I just wrote an email to [email protected] about this. In the interim, I would love to find a gizmo or a hack to calibrate the speedo to true speed.

  11. It is a requirement by law for speedos to over read I think

  12. Perhaps but if it's the law, it's not applied consistently. For example, I have a Jeep Rubicon with a built-in GPS. The speedometer matches the GPS speed exactly. It would really look stupid if it didn't.

  13. Maybe the GPS is wrong?.....

  14. Negative. The built-in GPS matches my stand-alone Garmin.
I do this all the time where my stand-alone Garmin has topo maps used simultaneously with the built-in GPS for roads.

  15. The law states +8%, -0%.
So they can over-read by up to 8%, but not under-read.

I agree it is frustrating, and just means most people simply compensate for it once they know, or just use gps speed.

I've ridden with a bunch of mates on different bikes over the last 9 years of mts ownership and they are all generally reading the same: indicated 85mph is the same on theirs too, whether its a Ducati, Yamaha, Triumph, BMW, or a Honda.

@bradders, If you can get the old girl to lift her skirts up in 4th and 5th up to the red line, she will get a wriggle on. Dropping into 6th too early means its game over as its essentially an overdrive gear. I've achieved an indicated speed north of 150mph, full loaded including pillion. Satnav was showing something like 143mph. Clearly I need to try harder :p

  16. I was kidding!

  17. Yeah, it's a bit like setting your alarm clock fifteen minutes ahead cuz you don't have the common sense to get up when it rings.

  18. Well the chain and sprocket turned up today, so I set too in the garage, no time like the present, well its now fitted and ready to go, new tyres as well.
Looking forward to the first run out.
