British Indy: What Happens Now?

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Nothing to see here AW.

    Disagreement - good
    Disagreeableness - bad

  2. Well there's a reason for celebration - is she getting down and dirty with the homeless kids now

  3. Not sure. I only know this because I’m acting for someone in a defamation claim which is similar to the Hopkins case. I read up on it a few months ago and there was an appeal and possibly also a costs hearing in 2018 but beyond that, I’m not sure what else has happened.

This is worth a read/laugh, because when it emerged that she had put her house up for sale in order to pay her and the other side’s legal bills, some wag set up a crowd funding page with the intention of buying it and letting asylum seekers live there https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/katie-hopkins-house-exeter-st-leonards-a8171051.html?amp

  5. Of course, all countries in the EU have a veto on countries wanting to join.
So, for example, if the UK doesn't want Turkey to join the EU then it can vote against it using its veto.*

The other problem is that Turkey is actually nowhere near meeting the requirements to join the EU.
Negotiations for full membership [of the EU] were started on 3 October 2005 ... out of the 35 Chapters necessary to complete the accession process only 16 had been opened and one had been closed by May 2016.
On 26 June 2018, the EU's General Affairs Council stated that "the Council notes that Turkey has been moving further away from the European Union. Turkey’s accession negotiations have therefore effectively come to a standstill and no further chapters can be considered for opening or closing and no further work towards the modernisation of the EU-Turkey Customs Union is foreseen."

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accession_of_Turkey_to_the_European_Union

So you don't have to worry about all those Turks invading just yet...

    * this is only valid if you're a member of the EU club and wish to have a say in how the EU club is run. If you decide to leave the EU club then you no longer get to say how the EU club is run any more. I hope this clears up any confusion.

  7. Back on track, the “possible” deal being talked about now has pushed pound up 1.14 to euro. Highest it has been for some time.

  8. Surely, If you are not a member of the club you are not concerned about who joins.

  9. you would think. Just another stick to beat the EU with at the moment. Because for some, everything is the fault of the EU.
Be interesting to see a deal of some sort, how much longer the Tory party will continue to blame “ them”. I suspect years to come. Just in the same way any economic problem has been down to Labour. Never something to do with the actual government of the day.

  10. I guess we have no influence over Russia or China either, is that a good thing

  11. Certainly be interesting to see if it is a deal both sides agree on.

Politics seems to involve a lot of 'why it's not my fault'.

  12. Does anybody ?

  13. Question is - do we care?

  14. Slight time lapse problem there chaps, the worry has been turkey joining, holding the eu to ransom and in domination the eu parliament if it joined. The first hasn't happened and so far isn't likely, the second has happened and as long as 1 doesn't happen then 3 should be okay too. This has been a worry whilst we have been and still are, in the eu.

We were never the only country worried about Turkey joining and to suggest so has a wiff of remainer opportunism

When we actually leave, it will no longer be any of our direct concern but we will be aware of world events. Who joins falls into that category Also

EU countries have agreed to "intensify" Brexit talks with the UK over the next few days.
The development comes after a meeting in Brussels between Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay and EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier, described by both sides as "constructive".
The UK is due to leave the EU at 23:00 GMT on 31 October.:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:

  18. You have completely forgotten that the EU is changing and this will not always be the case - but you know that, or knew that already :p
