Of course, all countries in the EU have a veto on countries wanting to join. So, for example, if the UK doesn't want Turkey to join the EU then it can vote against it using its veto.* The other problem is that Turkey is actually nowhere near meeting the requirements to join the EU. you would think. Just another stick to beat the EU with at the moment. Because for some, everything is the fault of the EU. Be interesting to see a deal of some sort, how much longer the Tory party will continue to blame “ them”. I suspect years to come. Just in the same way any economic problem has been down to Labour. Never something to do with the actual government of the day.

Slight time lapse problem there chaps, the worry has been turkey joining, holding the eu to ransom and in domination the eu parliament if it joined. The first hasn't happened and so far isn't likely, the second has happened and as long as 1 doesn't happen then 3 should be okay too. This has been a worry whilst we have been and still are, in the eu. We were never the only country worried about Turkey joining and to suggest so has a wiff of remainer opportunism When we actually leave, it will no longer be any of our direct concern but we will be aware of world events. EU countries have agreed to "intensify" Brexit talks with the UK over the next few days. The development comes after a meeting in Brussels between Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay and EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier, described by both sides as "constructive".
