Another St4s Immoblizer Issue

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by mgrover, Dec 27, 2019.

  1. chrisw said on another forum this, "A bit of googling suggests the u1600 fault is because the aerial around the ignition is not reading the chip in the key. Before going down the ECU route try another aerial module."

  2. running without an immobiliser is foreign territory to me, on a Multistrada 1000DS (which is similar) normally extinguishing of the yellow "engine" light confirms that the aerial/proximity sensor ring at ignition switch is working but, only guessing, it could be that even with immobiliser disabled, the proximity ring still needs to be working and register with the ECU before coil drivers are enabled?

  3. yano what ill check now just to confirm.

  4. so bike doesnt have a check engine light, just has the fuel pressure light am guessing and that never goes off.

  5. is yours like this?

sorry, forgot - you supplied image earlier:-

  6. Nah its the old one, 2002.

  7. just looking for a guide to show idiot lights up close. waving the white flag on this one, but will have a search for more details on your instrument, hopefully someone on here can add more.

  8. thanks for your help anyways :) am going to post in the jpdiag forums.

it defo seems like an ecu issue. i just dont know enough about why

  9. So now you've got it cranking well, recharge the battery and do the basic checks - does it spark when cranking? Does the fuel pump run when you turn the key, and while cranking?

Can you connect JPDiag to the ECU successfully? If so, you can check all the sensor readings, battery voltage, coolant temp, air temp, Throttle Position Sensor, Neutral switch, etc.
You can also test the outputs from the ECU (coils, fuel pump, fan, etc).

  10. it even cranks better than before tbh. but now when cranking my tach doesnt flicker like it used to before, so am guessing my cps has pretty much called it a day, plus i got an error about the cps in jpdiag.

so any idea if the ebay link will fit :p

  11. ok - CPS replacement worth doing then obviously. if it's possible to test coil driver outputs then it must be the way forward - have you got a link to a layman's guide to do this Turbogeek? :upyeah:

  12. I tried to cross-reference without any luck so far, you are right to hesitate as sometimes they appear identical but the "nose" dimension is slightly different. If slightly too long then can be shimmed but stuffed if too short.

  13. no. but i did speak to the guy who created jpdiag and he seems to think my immo isn't disabled.

    here http://jpdiag.xooit.eu/t5178-st4s-u1600.htm

so maybe thats my next course somehow get it disabled, just waiting for chrisw to come back online

  14. It should fit, yes.
As I've said before though, even if the bike cranks really well, if the battery goes below 10.xV (can't remember the exact voltage) the ECU will shut down - hence no start.

  15. voltage is currently 12.5v, maybe a bit less from the cranking

  16. On your JPDiag thread, what do you mean by " The normal keys I have used to start it, only recently broke"

  17. ive basically not changed the key at all. its only recently stopped working ie the bike firing
