I becam a bit of an expert on heated grips thanks to BMW Here goes MY113/14 GSA had piss poor heated grips ( well documented) and i had a MY13/14 GSA lots and lots of complaints were made and it was due to the new grips being at a different resistance of 4 Ohms instead of 5 ( or the other way round) BMW did change the grips on a few of the bikes I knew of but then refused as it was an alleged fire risk. they got round this with as long as they get warmer than the air temp they work and that is what we sell heated grips and they do heat. On the next years model the grips were uprated on the resistance and did work very well. BMW now had a shit load of crap heated grips which they then went and fited to the new S1000XR ( any guesses as to what bike i chose to buy after the GSA ?) Yep the heated grips on the XR were so bad i really went to town on the dealer and in fairness to the service manager he retro fitted some of the new GS grips to the XR for me despite B<W telling him not to as as long as they got warm at all they were within the right and fitting the GS ones wasa fire risk ... Ducati may have done the same on the resistance or the maker of the grips etc but forget the stuff about bars soaking the heat away etc its about the resistance in the grips as to how hot they get My 2019 PP the grips are super and way better than any i have had in recent years
Hi folks anyone if a faulty (open circuit) grip brings the engine light on ( 2015 Dvt 1200 Multistrada base model)
Yes. Please download the freeware Melcodiag (Google it). Buy two cables and you have the ability to read the fault codes. I just fixed my lh grip an hour ago. Engine warning came on (lh top of display) when you switched the heated grips on. Goes away when you switch off. Error shown was heated grips connection to earth or open. It's quite easy to replace the heated element underneath the grips if you know how to solder. EBay has a 12v heated grip kit that's perfect.
Thats the weird thing. My Duc MTS 1200 DVT base model l/h grip went cold and Eng Mngt lght came on same time. R/h grip stayed on.....I sighed lol
George what duc model was this repair on, please? Can't find a lead for the duc Multistrada 1200 dvt. Thanks for any advice.
2015 1200S DVT Ebay links to the two cables https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ducati-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-ELM...var=553331044502&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Look at the FAQ sesciton on the jpdiag forum - there is a sticky on there on a beginners guide how to use. Will explain also the process of getting the licence key (free)
So tank cover/cowl removed last night to get to heated grip wiring. Couldn't find where right hand filler cap breather was (one of two breathers on the filler cap underside). Then once cowl eas removed found the RHS breather taped to the tank! I've not removed it before only the Ducati dealer. Disappointed they didn't tell me. Do I have case to go to them about this?
It's annoying but personally I'd just put it right and wouldn't worry about it, could have been previous owner unless you've had it from new?
had it from new wi cost £££ to put right. Cant see individual parts on the filler cap...comes as one whole unit....
Edward yes its snapped off please see photos. This part can be unscrewed, but can't find it anywhere as a seperate component.
