Excessive wind ('uncledons' wings/wind deflectors)

  1. Just fitted the new Mk 2 version of the Eagle Screens Wind Deflectors - took 2 minutes to fit each side and looks really tidy IMO. Now to see if they work!!!

  2. Hi, Any chnace of some pics with the 2013 PP as I pick mine up next week and am interested in the WD's. Cheers Jim

  3. They look great. Can't wait to hear what you think of them in action!

  4. Never mind the wind deflectors, how have you mounted your satnav, I can see it's on a ram ball but how have you fixed the bottom ball to the bike?

  5. Probably by mounting a ball to the handle for the screen.
There are details on andyw's site somewhere of how I mounted mine like this.

  6. RAM mount bolted through the screen frame top rail. Picked up the idea on AndyW's Motorcycle Info Pages. I reinforced the underside of the rail with a bit of steel plate. Zumo wobbles a bit but nothing serious and I have done a few big tours with no problems.

  7. Lol, that's a picture of my bike :)

  8. I've mounted mine using a ball off one of the handlebar clamp screws and it blocks part of the dash but if I can't see which gear I'm in it's hardly the end of the World. It doesn't wobble at all but the security screw that locks the clamp on top of the satnav keeps vibrating so it's done up and I've lost the tool for undoing it

  9. With the 550 mounted as shown it does wobble, but not a great deal. The long thread you can see in the picture has a well-nut on it that touches the flat bit of the handle, so it acts as a damper.
With the screen all the way down it masks the speedo, but the 550 shows you your true speed anyway, so its not a big deal either

foosyerdoos, how much bigger / different are these mk2 deflectors ?
I've got a set of the originals, wondering if I need to upgrade...

Has anyone found a screen / deflector combo that cuts the wind noise & turbulence substantially ?
I am thinking about trying the barn door that is the calsci medium touring screen, before I go totally deaf (eh, whaaaat ?)

  10. John, see reply from John at Eagle Screens to your question: "Hi Andrew, you've received the latest version available.
The changes we made were to solve the fitment issues some customers were experiencing.
So we purchased a new set of fairings from Italy and designed another prototype, had yet another set of moulds made and set about resolving the issues.
A local rider, Jeremy ( a top guy!) helped us out with trials and his feedback and availability helped refine the design to the latest version.
Our aim was to make the deflectors easier to fit and achieve a snug, tight fit to the fairing. To those ends I think we’ve succeeded.
The purpose of the deflectors remains the same as per the original design by Robin Blackburn and there was no need to change anything in that regard.
Making these taller will not necessarily improve the ride and we can’t take them any wider or the handle bar paraphernalia would hit them on full lock.
However if there is demand for a slightly taller version, we will look at doing so.
But the latest design, which is moulded to fit snugly into and around the fairing should achieve what their original design was all about, ie: getting a better ride for most riders.

I hope this answers your queries adequately.
    Regards, John

PS: Robin Blackburn sent us a new set of fairings as well....(thanks so much Robin!)...who has followed the progress of “his baby” closely at all times.
PPS: Details on the deflectors can be viewed from our web site ..click on “Ducati” then click on “Latest Info 15th April”.(any problems with that, just email me [email protected] )"

  11. I wish they could have sorted this out before selling the mk1 version to be honest but I suppose that's development for you....

  12. Hi foosyerdoos,
Are they dark tint or light tint? Just trying to decide which ones to order!
    Cheers
    Steve

  13. Cheers. Just ordered mine.

  14. Hi Jim, the WD's will fit the 2010 to 2012 models only, the cockpit fairing has changed on the 2013 models. I have found both screens supplied with the 2013 PP are OK for me. People should read my earlier posts to refresh on how effective I found them.

All the best for a fantastic summer and perfect riding conditions for your new bike. As I read somewhere else on the forum, slip into sport mode launch yourself off every corner apex you can find.

  15. Im just trying to buy a set now its not v quick is it or cheap

  16. Bought my set on 22nd April for £51.30 including delivery and PayPal fees. Delivered on 13th May. Factor in another £ 3.00 for black bolts and washers off EBay.

  17. Hi foosyerdoos,

Looks like you also have Aztec spacers fitted? Does this create a gap between the WD's and the fairing - does it look odd, or is it fine?

Got mine on order - just waiting the few weeks for them to arrive now. Really looking forward to trying them out.

    Cheers

    Steve

  18. Steve, had my first ride out with the wind deflectors fitted last night. The ride was much more comfortable - still get the wind noise but that uncomfortable buffeting was virtually eliminated. I didn't have time to experiment with screen heights but plenty of time for that in the next 10 days on a trip to Scotland!. My set up is Givi screen, AZTEC spacers and now ESA wind deflectors. The wind deflectors look good as they sit tight to the screen frame and the gap to the screen looks fine.

  19. Good answer :)

I've got a DP Touring screen fitted. In the lowest position I get a lot of wind noise, but in highest my head is quite calm, but I get a lot of buffeting on my shoulders. Hopefully the WD's will help this. I've just fitted a lower seat so I'm wondering if that will also help as my head will now be lower!

    Enjoy your trip to Scotland.
