Holy crap I wish this was for an 848/1098 frame and not a panigale frame - I'd bite your hand off for a copy of this spreadsheet!
Woodhall Spa? Nice!!! Not got anything booked yet but will hopefully get some sorted soon. Won't get the new trackbike until end of July.
Love this project ! Just took my 959 track bike out for the first time yesterday absolutely brilliant bikes!!
Yep - Tuesday. Wasn’t a total disaster - but not great! I basically got everything wrong! A mate came over the night before and while loading the van we had a few drinks - then sat putting the world to rights until 2.30am before getting up at 6.30! Mistake Number 1 Got to Cadwell - ‘what’s your name and what group are you in?” Said the guy on the gate - “inters” I said “I have you in advanced” he said. “Oh fuck” I thought. Asked to be moved down - no dice! Mistake number 2. So here I am on my first track day of the year. With a bike I have never ridden. Not really done much road riding due to lockdown, Not having any chance for a shakedown ride - about to go on track with some fast lads. Joy! At to this - I have done next to no exercise and been sat behind a desk or working on bikes all winter - so I’m completely unprepared for the hammering I’m about to take! Mistake number 3. The first few sessions were cancelled due to visibility gave me time to potter around so wasn’t too bothered - did so without realising that my pasty flesh wasn’t used to being outside at all and even through the haze I was getting sunburned. Mistake number 4. Finally got on track - completely uncomfortable - feeling under pressure to go fast without even getting used to the bike and think about setup or ergonomics. Total overload to the senses! Bike revved out super quick - kept bouncing off the limiter. Lack of weight meant braking was much more sensitive. I had forgotten to order tank grips so was getting thrown forwards. Kept putting too much weight on my arms and generally feeling completely out of my comfort zone. I was shattered after very few laps - breathing hard and overheating in my leathers - came in early and looked down to see my steering damper had come loose - bolt had worked free. I was expecting some teething trouble on a new build so I wasn’t surprised something had worked loose. Sourced a new bolt and reassembled in a makeshift manner with plenty of red threadlock but missed the next session while sorting it. Fought with the heat and exhaustion all day but finally got a little more comfortable during the last session. Overall the bike is pretty incredible. It accelerates faster, brakes harder and turns much quicker than the stock bike. The new CompK slicks were very sticky and gave 100% confidence in the corners. I never felt great on the bike though. The Ducati Performance seat is much higher than the stock one. I felt pitched forward onto the bars and unable to keep my weight off them. A previous issue with the stock bike reared it’s head as well - my sidi boots kept catching on the heel guard. I had this before with the stock rearsets - they hook into the stitching on the left hand heel of the boot and catch on it. The CNC racing carbon one is actually worse - on the brake side it’s fine - much bigger and angled inwards - on the shifter side it’s much smaller and angled out - I now wonder if it’s the one that came with the rearsets as it’s a terrible design. The combination of the design of the boot and the heel guard is dangerous and very off putting - kept catching it each time I moved my foot forward to change gear - went grass tracking at the bottom of the mountain because of it! From above Brake side for comparison A separate issue - boots scraped the swingarm - need some protection pads. Much smaller heel guard on the other side - angled so far out no scratches on swingarm - but dangerously catching on boots! Had the boots re-stitched last year but the new heel guard has slit the stitches again. Only really scrubbed the tyres in with all of the issues - but based on the feel and grip would recommend.
Not done that yet - on my list but waiting until camping restrictions are lifted. Your local? How are they with noise testing - I had just over 105db static at Cadwell so wondering how I will do at other tracks.
I shaped and polished the stock one on the other bike to fix the issue so I think for the moment I will fit that and put a fresh stock one on it to sell. I have seen the same issue reported on other forums - with the same boots! Wish I had read it before I paid close to £300 for them!
yeh it’s about half hour up the road. My bike is a trioptions with ti akras, I ran the baffles and had no problems at all but there were some really loud bikes out and didn’t seem to be any problems for anyone..
