749 - Fuel Pump Not Priming

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by RickyX, Sep 3, 2020.

  1. Hi,

yes you have to remove the black plastic part. carefully use a flat screwdriver to remove the clips ... take your time, you want to reuse them. After having removed the upper black cover you have access to the part, which is secured by a snap ring, that also has to be removed. Done that you can push the part out.

  2. Brilliant - that’s what I reckoned I’d need to do but just wanted to hear from someone who’d done it already.
    Thanks.

  3. Also...how can I get the fuel filter clips off without a special tool?

  6. To reinstall I used some pincers to compress the ears.

  7. I found them Oetiker 123 single ear clips.

  8. Got the clips and shroud off. Bit of a fiddly job.

  9. how many cups of Italian coffee have you got through during strip-down so far R?

  10. Just a couple...
Put this to one side now as I haven’t got a fuel filter, o ring or any hose clips yet, so no rush apart from the excitement to see if it’s fixed when it all goes back together.
Went for a breezy cycle ride to chill.

  11. I haven't got any spare filters either at the mo or might have been an excuse to pop out today.

  12. It’s ok, got one at P&H waiting for me.

  13. the clip thing is fun, part of being spoilt at work (but also*) is that I never equipped myself with all the special ones, or tools, you can nearly always re-use all of the fasteners in your pics if careful as generous gauge material, and plenty-of-life/fit for a re-crimp but obviously carries a "don't attempt this at home" warning, i'm just tight*.. :)

  16. the 749 track bike which has been sat idle for months but started from time to time no longer wants to start
    no fuel pump priming
ok so here we go... code 16.0 on dash so suggests pump relay
relay replaced but still no good. what next?
    battery fine

  17. ok so the relay in headlight loom is not looking happy and doesnt create a buzz when i stick my meter thing into it

  18. oddly its the same as the one in battery box but missing a middle pin but its not wired at the plug end
i dont have a spare so will try to remove it from my road 749

  19. ok so still crap
both relays replaced (battery box and headlight bucket) for relays that are known to work
all fuses checked and fine (battery box x 2 and headlight bucket x 5)

  20. As you have a spare 749, why not do what I did and swap the tanks over? When I put my road bike tank on my dead track bike it cured it. That’s how I confirmed it was the fuel pump wiring.
